Description
The Transition Mentor is responsible for ensuring a successful residency / fellowship for new Clinical Academy residents (new to nursing) and fellows (experienced; new to specialty). The Clinical Academy is our accelerated, operational model to develop new graduate and new-to-specialty nurses to provide exceptional care and experience, to national standards. The Clinical Academy, in deep partnership with HR, will create an integrated, consistent structure for nurse onboarding and development, ensure a ready supply of well-prepared nurses for hard-to-fill specialties, reduce first year turnover, and help eliminate our dependence on costly agency/overtime use.
This role is critical for the success of the system Clinical Academy as it is the primary regional / local position that will convene and ensure alignment between preceptors, managers, and residents / fellows to ensure an excellent experience. It is the "boots on the ground" role that will translate system strategy into program success and resident / fellow experience. The role will need to navigate the dynamic between system standardization and regional differentiation and will need to have a clear understanding of the dynamics of tight-loose-tight, our Clinical philosophy outlining system strategy alignment, flexibility in implementation, and system outcome / measurement alignment. The role will also have to foster professional growth for clinical staff in a unionized environment. That will require discretion in coaching preceptors to align (across facilities) on a standard preceptor model that requires different and often more advanced preceptor skills and execution.
