Children\xe2\x80\x99s Home Shelter for Family Safety, in Sioux Falls, SD is currently seeking Shelter Assistants to fill in for regularly scheduled staff, helping with all functions related to serving the men, women and children staying at Children\'s Home Shelter for Family Safety. What You\xe2\x80\x99ll Do:
Your responsibilities as a Shelter Assistant would include:

  • Respond to needs of clients, crisis telephone calls, arrest interventions, drop-in counseling sessions, shelter assessments, shelter intakes and departures.
  • Perform assigned casework duties.
  • Make appropriate referrals to other service agencies.
  • Assist in keeping the shelter clean and orderly.
  • Maintain vigilant supervision of children.
  • Assist children with hygiene, diet, dressing and bathing.
  • Transport clients as necessary.
  • Responsibilities for on-call duties and holiday shifts as assigned.
  • Answer the telephone, doors, and assist visitors.

Schedule:
Employees in this position do not have a set schedule, but will work vacant shifts, filling in for full-time and part-time staff. You would have the option of picking up hours during days, evenings, weekends and/or overnights. Compensation: $20.00/hr Requirements: Experience/Education/Skills:
  • High school education preferred.
  • References that can depict level of interest in working with individuals in crisis.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers and software utilized by the office.
  • Valid South Dakota driver\xe2\x80\x99s license preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Environment focused on care of individuals in crisis situations. The employee is regularly required to bend and sit on the floor. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to physically restrain a child in ways taught by the Agency while being able to verbally communicate to the child and other staff.
