Senior IT Support

Baton Rouge Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (BROD) is a newly authorized Type 2 Charter that is part of the Discovery Schools Charter Management Organization. We are excited to bring Discovery education to the Baton Rouge area through our second corporate partnership with Ochsner Health. The school is scheduled to open for the 2023-24 school year, starting with grades PreK4 - 4th and will eventually educate students in grades PreK - 8th at full capacity.

Baton Rouge Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy is currently seeking a full-time Senior IT Support person to start in June of 2023. We seek highly motivated candidates who value innovation, diversity, and who will demand excellence from themselves and the organization.
Discovery Schools opened their doors in Jefferson Parish in 2013 as a K-12 charter school created to give families choice in public education. Discovery is growing to a network of 3 schools with a Health Sciences mission. Across our four campuses in Kenner, Metairie, and Baton Rouge our 400+ teachers/staff will serve over 3,000 students in grades Pre-K-12th. Position Overview:

The Senior IT Support person will be responsible for the day to day running of all aspects of IT on the Baton Rouge campus. The Senior IT Support staff will be a first point of contact for faculty and students seeking technical help via the ticketing system, email, over the phone, or in person. The Senior IT Support person will be expected to provide timely and accurate solutions to those seeking
help. A wide array of technical knowledge and good communication skills, both verbal and written, is key to being successful in this role. The job requires patience and a solution oriented friendly demeanor even when dealing with difficult situations and urgent needs. The staff member needs to be team oriented and flexible as you will be working closely with a growing IT team on a regular basis. This position requires someone who is proactive in finding solutions for all issues brought to their attention, and ensuring that all sides are satisfied with the outcome. This position will be working directly with students and staff on a daily basis. The candidate will be meticulous in tracking IT assets, especially student and staff laptops in our inventory system.

The Senior IT Support person will report to the IT Director, and work closely with the
Director on any larger network, server, or other centralized management issues.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Submitting warranty claims, sending broken computers to the depot for repair, and checking them in upon return for both students and staff.
  • Doing in house Chromebook repairs for computers that are damaged outside of the basic warranty.
  • Assigning and responding to cases in the IT ticketing system.
  • Going into the classrooms on a regular basis to assist staff & students if the issue needs to be solved in a hands-on manner instead of via ticket responses or via remote control.
  • Troubleshooting Network issues.
  • Troubleshooting devices connected to the network including but not limited to Windows laptops, Chromebooks, Printers, VoIP Phone System, Intercoms, AV Systems, Security Devices, Projectors, and all other technology found on our campuses.
  • Working with the Director of Educational Technology to ensure all curriculum software is running smoothly and effectively for teachers and students.
  • Assisting with summer IT projects and with preparing everything for the coming school year.
  • Bringing larger issues and/or a pattern of similar issues to the attention of the IT Director so a system wide solution can be found.

Qualifications: Successful candidates will have the following attributes:
  • A Bachelor\'s Degree or higher in an IT/Computer Science field preferred.
  • 4 or more years experience working as an IT Technician and experience working in a school are preferred.
  • Friendly, outgoing, and patient with all types of users, and with a demonstrated record of excellent customer service is key for this role.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Organized and detail oriented.
  • Understanding and ability to troubleshoot a campus wide network including DHCP, DNS, Wireless issues, and a basic understanding of fiber and ethernet switching.
  • Basic knowledge of Google Workspace management, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Endpoint manager, Azure AD, and Windows server are all considered a plus.
  • Relevant (not required) certifications: A+, Net+, 365 Fundamentals, HP Certified Technician
