Job Description





The City of Renton is seeking a talented candidate to fill one (1) full-time Senior Finance Analyst vacancy in our Finance department. The Senior Finance Analyst is responsible for planning and organizing budget and accounting functions for the City. This position is part of a team of analysts that focus on the City\'s annual comprehensive financial report, and other accounting and finance functions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Plan and organize the budget and accounting functions for the City.
  • Act as the lead for one or more of the following finance department functions: the biennial budget, comprehensive annual financial report, capital improvement program, grant management, debt management, banking and investing functions, and internal/external audit functions.
  • Coordinate meetings and/or committees, prepare meeting agendas, and facilitate information sharing and collaboration between departments city-wide.
  • Act as a finance department liaison to one or more internal City departments; assist supported departments in budget development and on-going budget review and management.
  • Work with departments to develop strategies and solutions to achieve their goals within parameters of federal, state, local, and City laws and regulations.
  • Analyze department financial activity for accuracy, identify questionable items, and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Prepare revenue and cost scenarios using trend analysis, current economic patterns, potential future legislation, and other factors with potential financial impacts to the City.
  • Conduct research, interpret governing laws and regulations, and make recommendations.
  • Create cost allocation models for internal service funds, interagency services, and/or services provided to private agencies.
  • Perform cost versus benefit analysis and develop logical and ethical recommendations.
  • Prepare budgetary, and financial reports and other supporting schedules as required by City and State laws, policies, and standards established by professional organizations as applicable.
  • Prepare and present financial reports including variance analysis, short- and long-term projections, and other necessary correspondence to Directors, Administrators, Elected Officials, employees, and the public.
  • Conduct research and draft financial policies for supervisor review.
  • Contribute to an environment of teamwork and respect.

  • Remain current with relevant technological advancements as it relates to field.
  • Participate in and help provide cross-training in processes as directed by management to ensure a well-rounded team for coverage purposes.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and punctual attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • May be assigned to support City priorities during emergencies.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or closely related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, auditing, budgeting, financial analysis, and public finance.
  • Or 8 years of relevant education and experience.
  • Successful passing of a required background check and credit check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Move throughout City facilities and buildings.
  • Operate a computer and other office equipment.
  • Communicate with City employees and residents.
  • Lift or move items weighing up to 20 pounds occasionally.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Work is performed in an office environment.
  • Noise level in the office is moderately quiet.
  • Night meetings may be required.

Telework Program

The City of Renton supports workers performing in a hybrid capacity (partial telework/in-office) where job responsibilities can be performed remotely. This position may be eligible for a telework arrangement, working certain days/times remotely, based on the operational needs of the City and specific Department. Regardless of job title or telework arrangement, City of Renton employees must reside in Washington State and within a reasonable distance to their worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
