Senior Accountant

An International Policy and Strategy firm based in Wash DC seeks a Senior Accountant. This position will report directly to the Controller and will be responsible for the review of payroll processing performed by the staff accountant and will be a backup for payroll processing and reporting as needed. In addition to general accounting responsibilities and reconciliations, the Senior Accountant will manage the accounting and reporting of donor restricted funds.

responsibilities:

- Review and approve semi-monthly payroll, quarterly reports and year end reconciliation.

- Process payroll on a quarterly basis and provide backup as needed to payroll staff

- Review benefit and payroll deductions reconciliations

- Oversee the accounting of donor restricted funds

- Prepare financial reports for grants and select donor restricted funds

- Provide and/or assist with budgets for grant and donor restricted fund proposals

- Reconciliation of select balance sheet accounts

- Assist with administration of retirement accounts

- Provide backup for accounts payable as needed

- Review financial information for business insurance

- Assist Controller and CFO with quarterly financial statements with responsibility for net assets schedule (containing donor restricted fund balances)

- Assist Controller and CFO with annual audit schedules with responsibility for the compensation schedule

- Assist Controller and CFO with the annual 990 return schedules with responsibility for

completing the compensation schedule

- Assist Controller and CFO with the annual budget with responsibility for the compensation component

- Assist with other accounting functions as they arise
qualifications:

- BS/BA degree preferred

- At least 2 years of accounting experience

- Experience with payroll processing

- Excel skills

- Experience with nonprofit accounting software preferred and experience with Blackbaud

Financial Edge a plus
