HCPA is a Title I Charter School that serves students through a school-wide plan for instruction that is focused on the needs of at-risk students. The School Psychologist will assist all students in K-12 schools. The Psychologist acts along with school counselors as advocates for students\' well-being, and as valuable resources for their educational and personal advancement. As a school psychologist, it is his/her first and foremost priority to listen to students\' concerns. The School Psychologist may help students in processing issues such as bullying, disabilities, LGBTQ issues, low self-esteem, poor academic performance, social anxiety, problems with authority and problems at home.

A school psychologist or school psychologist intern will: \xe2\x80\xa2 Be licensed in Minnesota as a school psychologist, or be enrolled in and have completed their practicum experience and prerequisite course requirements in a training program approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP), and have the ability to receive a permanent or temporary license from the Minnesota Professional Educators Licensing and Ethics Board. A school psychologist intern will be supervised by and work under the direction of a licensed School Psychologist with at least 3 years of experience, per NASP requirements. \xe2\x80\xa2 Demonstrate skills within each of the ten domains of service outlined in the Model for Comprehensive and Integrated School Psychological Services \xe2\x80\xa2 Display good communication and organizational skills and demonstrate a cooperative and collaborative attitude \xe2\x80\xa2 Maintain professional personal appearance \xe2\x80\xa2 Show willingness to assist where needed and have the ability to establish good working relationships with a variety of Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with all students, staff, families and community members
  • Provide support, assistance and consultation to teachers in addressing assessment needs of students who may have a disability
  • Help students process their problems and plan goals and action
  • Promote positive behaviors
  • Participate in IEP meetings and facilitate communication between staff and families as necessary to inform instruction or fulfill other school needs
  • Support in the implementation of a school-wide multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) model consistent with the district framework to ensure: high quality instruction and preventative interventions, assessment practices are applied across all levels of the system for a deeper understanding of each student\'s needs and alignment of resources and supports necessary for each student\'s academic and social-emotional success
  • Conduct special education evaluations, including problem identification, assessment selection and administration, result interpretation and team eligibility decisions, and documentation according to state and federal requirements and relevant ethical guidelines
  • Supervise student activities, which may include: o Bus duty - assist with walking students to the busses at the end of the day o Breakfast and/or lunch duty - assist with monitoring based on a rotational schedule
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or administration

  • Participates in creating a culture of excellence, teamwork and collaboration amongst the staff, teachers, students, and families; a culture that is positive, open to the views of others, and uses social skills to resolve conflicts.
  • Establishes and maintains effective and cooperative relationships with students, parents, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Responds appropriately and promptly to parent, student, and staff member needs.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of a master\'s degree, or equivalent, in a school psychology program and a MN license (Tier 2, 3 or 4)
  • At least 2-3 years of psychology experience.
  • Strong interpersonal skills - the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task.
  • Knowledge of the programs, functions, and procedures of a school setting.
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency and stressful situations.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound and effective judgment within established guidelines.

days of your start date. Formal credential evaluation is required for post-secondary education completed outside

of the United States.

Work Environment/Conditions
  • Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; school building is a multi-level building that has an elevator and is accessible.
  • Position requires extensive interaction with children of all ages.
  • Possible exposure to loud and noisy locations (e.g. loud classrooms or cafeterias; children speaking or laughing loudly).
  • Operate standard equipment (computer, fax machine, telephone, copier machines, etc.).
  • Fast-paced environment.
  • Requires frequent keyboarding which calls for repetitive motion and rapid eye movements, frequent use of the telephone.
  • Position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time, ability to push, reach, or bend.
  • Work may require weekend and/or evening work and some travel may be required.
