JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Center for Survey Research at Penn State Harrisburg (CSR) is seeking up to two mid-career individuals to join its team of Researchers . CSR is a research unit within the Institute of State and Regional Affairs (ISRA). ISRA unites Penn State faculty and professional staff to carry out research and data services in the areas of public policy, community planning, information management, and evaluation. ISRA conducts approximately $3-$4 million in annual sponsored research from state, federal, philanthropic, and private funders. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to research projects that transform the lives of Pennsylvanians. We are looking for a team player who is committed to supporting ISRA\xe2\x80\x99s mission and growing research portfolio. The position is based at Penn State Harrisburg. CSR/ISRA is supportive of Penn State\xe2\x80\x99s Flexible Work Arrangements: https://hr.psu.edu/current-employee/flexible-work-arrangements . This is a limited-term staff appointment funded for one year from the start date with an excellent possibility of refunding. :
  • Collaborate with a team of faculty, students, and research professionals,
  • Manage and monitor tasks, project teams, and resources (staffing, budgets, operational expenses, etc.) for large-scale research projects,
  • Train and mentor full-time junior staff and supervise part-time staff,
  • Identify the information needs and analytic solutions for project partners,
  • Advise research partners and principal investigators on research methodologies such as data collection techniques, sampling procedures, and data analysis,
  • Oversee quality control and data quality throughout research projects,
  • Develop data collection instruments, protocols, and participant recruiting strategies,
  • Moderate focus groups and lead interview discussions,
  • Construct and manage mail and web surveys,
  • Lead statistical and/or qualitative data analysis and exploration,
  • Create data visualizations, including infographics, word clouds, and dashboards,
  • Prepare interim and final reports, research briefs, abstracts, manuscripts, and other data products for research projects, both independently and collaboratively, and
  • Travel infrequently statewide to conduct research activities.
Typical Experience:
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills,
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a dynamic work environment,
  • Ability to work on multiple concurrent research projects,
  • Efficient time management, priority setting, and organizational skills,
  • A commitment to quality and customer service, and
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Qualtrics, NVivo, Tableau, SPSS, SAS, and R is preferred, but not required.
Education:
  • This position will be filled as a Level 4.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree or higher with 6+ years of related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
