Position Summary



Global Wildlife Center is seeking a credentialed Veterinary Technician to join our growing team of animal care professionals. This role supports our veterinary team in providing high-quality medical care for a diverse collection of exotic wildlife species. The RVT will assist in diagnostics, maintain records, and contribute to enrichment and welfare initiatives in a hands-on, field-based environment.

Key Responsibilities



Assist DVM in medical procedures, diagnostics, and treatments for exotic and native wildlife.

Administer medications, monitor anesthesia, and perform post-operative care.

Maintain accurate medical records and logs in compliance with USDA and AZA standards.

Support preventive care programs including vaccinations, parasite control, and wellness exams.

Participate in animal restraint, sample collection, and emergency response.

Collaborate with animal care specialists on enrichment, behavioral observation, and husbandry.

Maintain inventory of medical supplies and ensure cleanliness of treatment areas.

Educate staff on basic medical protocols and assist in training initiatives.

Qualifications



Credentialed as RVT, LVT, or CVT (Louisiana recognizes RVT; LVT commonly used in practice).

Minimum 1 year experience in veterinary medicine; exotic animal experience strongly preferred.

Familiarity with wildlife, zoo, or sanctuary settings is a plus.

Strong communication, organizational, and observational skills.

Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.

Comfortable with physical restraint and handling of large and small exotic species.

Preferred Experience



Prior work in zoo, wildlife rehab, or emergency veterinary settings.

Experience with enrichment, behavioral monitoring, and welfare assessments.

Familiarity with USDA, AZA, ZAA or similar regulatory frameworks.
