Description

Under general direction, performs responsible, semi-professional recreation work leading and directing a wide variety of organized recreation activities and programs; supervises recreation facilities; does related work as required.

Positions will be filled at the level based on experience and needs of the Department.
Recreation Leader I: $15.95 - $20.35
Recreation Leader II: $18.50 - $23.61

Examples of Duties

Representative Duties

  • Plans and coordinates activities such as sports, arts and crafts, games, and special events; organizes and leads activities at a city park, community center, and/or other recreation areas within the city.
  • Performs score keeping, officiating and minor field maintenance, inspects facilities for safety, unlocks and opens various facilities.
  • Works with reservations software at facilities; assists public at counter/front desk, accepts registration, answers incoming calls.
  • Organizes and conducts inventory of sports equipment; maintains effective communication and harmonious relationships with the public, participants, and staff.
  • Communicates and enforces rules, safety and good sportsmanship.
  • Follows safety procedures; responds to emergency situations as they arise and follows emergency procedures.
  • Ensures that accidents and incidents are promptly documented and reported.
  • Understands and follows oral and written instruction.
  • Performs related duties as required.
Organizational Responsibilities
Receives general supervision from the Recreation Coordinators and Recreation Supervisor.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience
Ahigh school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Course work in college is desired. One (1) year paid or volunteer experience working with the public is desired.

Working Conditions
Available to work varied shifts, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Position requires prolonged standing, sitting, walking on level or unleveled surfaces, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, grasping and making repetitive hand movement in the performance of daily duties. Incumbents may be required to lift, carry and/or push objects weighing 50 pounds or more. This position requires near and far vision for reading written documents and in the observation of participants during activities. Acute hearing is also required in providing customer service to public and /or assistance in facility, classroom, or outdoors. Will also be working in outdoor area and may be exposed to loud noises and extreme weather conditions.

License
Must have and maintain a valid Class C California Driver\'s License. Within one (1) month of employment, will be required to complete and maintain a CA DMV Physical Certificate. Standard First Aid Certificate is highly desirable.
