Job Summary: To supervise, coordinate and implement training, safety, quality control, cost reduction, energy conservation and inventory control projects for the production area in order to improve the safe production of the highest quality pipe at the lowest cost. Direct the work of hourly employees.
Essential Functions
Directs hourly employees to ensure safety, quality, productivity goals are maintained. Coordinates efforts between departments and ensures timely communications on production issues. Ensures that employee timecard and other Payroll related items are maintained daily. Committed to disciplinary processes being followed in a fair and consistent basis relative to company policy. Works to manage labor relations in accordance with the various labor unions and labor agreements in place at the site.
Works with the CI personnel on improvement projects including: facilitating problem solving teams, Kaizen events and PPS projects. Coordinates Production area training activities; develops training materials, sets up meetings and maintains training records as required.
Prepares quality presentations, Develops and uses Leader Standard Work to standardizing their daily activities and monitor the first-level employee safety, quality and production activities.
Analyzes processing costs and prepares reports for Area Manager, Bessemer Manager, and presentations for cost dashboard analyses.
Coordinates semi-inventory counts, assists Operations Planner as required to ensure inventory accuracy, participates in/conducts ISO, Lean and 5S audits as required.
Assures that all plant and safety rules and policies are enforced and that violators are disciplined in a fair and consistent manner, assists supervision with daily administration of the collective bargaining agreement and attends grievance and other employee meetings as required.
May be responsible for the effective functioning of any of the Production Areas for compliance with quality and production standards. Fills in for Area Supervisors as required and serves as mentor to newly hired supervisors.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities and Traits: A minimum of HS diploma or GED (BS Degree in Business, Mfg, Industrial Mgmt or Engineering is preferred but not required). Technical degree is a plus. Requires a minimum of 1-5 years of previous experience supervision in a heavy union or non-union manufacturing environment is required. Previous ductile iron products experience with a good understanding of production operation is preferred.
