The Department of Chemistry, Biology, and Health Sciences at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Scientist position for developing the next generation of polymers using synthetic biology approaches. The Department has a history of conducting basic and applied research in System Biology, Molecular Biology, and Microbiology. The successful candidate will be responsible for (i) designing and executing experimental research, (ii) advising student researchers, (iii) disseminating research findings through peer-reviewed publications and scientific conference presentations. The work will also require participation in research activities, including (i) synthetic protein channels for metabolite assimilation, (ii) collecting and analyzing multi-omics (genomics, transcriptomics, and/or proteomics) to develop metabolic models, (iii) engineering non-model bacterium for biomanufacturing of next-generation of polymers and carbon sequestering enzymes. Preference will be given to candidates with meticulous publication records, and in-depth knowledge of applied research skills in functional genomics and/or in-silico protein engineering and/or Machine Learning approaches for advanced biomanufacturing.

A Ph.D. degree in Life Sciences, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a closely related field is required. The applicant with expertise in Molecular and Synthetic Biology techniques will be preferred.
