Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Scientist. The NYU Grossman School of Medicine invites applications for a full-time Research Scientist specializing in Child, Adolescent, and Young Adult Neuropsychological Evaluations for activity in a large-scale research study. Experience in the evaluation of neurocognitive and behavioral and emotional functioning in a wide age-range including early childhood is required. The research activity is associated with the Department of Medicine for the multi-year RECOVER initiative, a national study evaluating the impact of COVID-19 exposure and Post-Acute SARS COVID disorders (Long COVID) in children, teens, young adults and their caregivers. The two Research Scientists will be responsible for training, supervising, and consulting with the research teams collecting data on subjects in over 80 pediatric sites across the United States. The Research Scientists will report to the team director and guide the actions of research site monitors who will have weekly contact with site test administrators to assure quality administration, scoring, and data entry for a wide range of screening and diagnostic neurocognitive and psychiatric measures.

The RECOVER Clinical Science Core at NYU Grossman School of Medicine guides the comprehensive medical, social, and psychological study of Long COVID. Research Scientists in these positions will interact with pediatric specialists, epidemiologists, psychologists, psychiatrists, large-data research specialists and statisticians, and study administrators, many of whom are leaders in their fields, from a wide range of university medical centers. Opportunities to participate in studies utilizing the data being gathered and involvement in publications and presentations on findings will be available.

Job Responsibilities:

Research Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Responding to the directions and guidance of the Pediatric Lead for neurocognitive and psychiatric assessment
  • Provision of training in the administration, scoring, and interpretation of neurocognitive, behavioral, and emotional tests to research personnel in multiple sites
  • Consult with research site teams to assure consistent quality of data acquisition
  • Consult on clinical concerns raised in data acquired and guide sites on making appropriate referral suggestions
  • Guide research site monitors as they engage in ongoing weekly review of data acquisition and data scoring
Requirements and expectations:
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. from an APA- or CPA- accredited psychology program
  • Early career psychologists are encouraged to apply
  • Eligibility for licensure in New York or New Jersey is beneficial.
  • Eligibility for or certification by the American Board of Professional Psychology in Clinical Neuropsychology is also beneficial.
  • Demonstrated expertise in neuropsychological, psychological and educational assessments with children, adolescents and young adults with learning disorders, psychiatric conditions and various neurological complications that affect learning and cognitive functioning
  • Demonstrated experience in working clinically with complex comorbid presentations including mood, anxiety, personality, and other psychiatric disorders
  • Ability to navigate educational systems and determine appropriate school placements, accommodations and supports
  • Comprehensive reports written and provided within a structured timeframe.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of health care professionals
  • Prior experience supervising and training post-doctoral neuropsychology trainees
  • Demonstrated experience with professional writing as well as with public speaking
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of individuals/groups
  • Familiarity with clinical research and data analysis a plus
  • Develops research techniques and methodologies.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the advances in specialized fields through attendance of scientific conferences.
  • May make significant contributions to scientific papers. Is a resource/ author/ co-author for reports and presentations.
  • May coordinate the activity and experimental design between various labs, scientific staff, and collaborators. Identifies and resolves technical problems.
  • May serve on internal committees to help further goals of research projects and bring new expertise to the research program.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a MS degree and 2-4 years of experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
Substantial experience from having completed Post Doc training. Established a record of publications.

Qualified candidates must be able to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58,500.00 - $62,400.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
