Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
This Planner position is located in Topeka, at the Eisenhower State Office Building, and is within the Bureau of Transportation Planning. This position prepares traffic forecasts and transportation studies, develops/reviews travel demand models of urban and urbanized areas in Kansas, assists in the review of break-in-access studies in accordance with KDOT and Federal Highway Administration regulations. The Planner will occasionally develop and review traffic Synchro/SimTraffic models to analyze operational deficiencies on roadways. This position would have a significant role in the transportation planning processes, corridor studies and economic impact analysis.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Develop traffic forecasts and analyses as prioritized using statistical methods and the four-step modeling process.
Develop, document and is responsible for updating and running assigned travel demand models.
Under direction of the Models and Forecasting Manager and Planner III, assist in coordinating the collection and analysis of social economic data, demographic data, highway inventory data, and land use data for trends and future growth patterns.
Under the direction of the Models and Forecasting Manager and Planner III, assist in the development of transportation planning processes, corridor studies and economic impact analysis.
Construct traffic simulation models for the purpose of identifying and analyzing operational deficiencies on localized sections of the Kansas State Highway System and the roads that serve it.
Represents KDOT at assigned MPO and other meetings.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of experience in urban/regional planning.
Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.
Transcripts are required for education to be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Working understanding of the transportation planning process.
Knowledge of geographic principles and processes, including a basic understanding of geographic information systems (GIS).
Knowledge in spreadsheets, databases, and other related computer skills.
Two years of experience related to work with traffic studies and related data and/or traffic modeling (macro and micro).
Knowledge in the elements needed to develop traffic forecasts and conduct and review traffic studies.
