Job Description

Communicare is a community mental health center in North Central Mississippi that serves Calhoun, Lafayette, Marshall, Panola, Tate and Yalobusha counties. Communicare offers specialized treatment services for adults with serious mental illness, children with serious emotional disturbances, individuals with substance abuse disorders and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Communicare is currently seeking a Peer Support at our Sunflower Landing location.

Peer Support-Provides a variety of recovery-oriented services to individuals who desired peer supports, in order to improve independence, community integration, and recovery from mental illness and or substance abuse. Services provided by peers (consumers or family members) include a wide range of supports, services, and advocacy that contribute to a client\xe2\x80\x99s ability to engage in ongoing treatment and attain their individualized goals for recovery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Attend all meetings/trainings required by Communicare, the Department of Mental Health, and other certification or grant agencies.
• Maintain certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
• Work collaboratively with other residential staff.
• Provide both individual and group peer support services for clients receiving services.
• Help new clients become oriented to the program, including the schedule and buildings.
• Transport clients as needed and/or accompany clients to outside appointments as needed.
• Improve communication between clients receiving services and service providers.
• Improve the team\xe2\x80\x99s understanding of lived experience, recovery, and resilience through modeling personal responsibility, self-advocacy, and hopefulness.
• Maintain current documentation of services provided in the client\xe2\x80\x99s electronic medical record.
• Provide crisis support by listening to the client and collaborating with the treatment team
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High school Diploma or equivalent.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Identify as a current or former mental health consumer with the ability to obtain a certification as a peer support specialist through the MS Dept. of Mental Health.
• Valid Mississippi driver\xe2\x80\x99s license, personal auto liability insurance, and insurable driving record (if required - discretionary).
• Complete and maintain all required training from the agency and regulatory outside agencies.
• Pass a Communicare criminal background check.
