Position Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the quality of health care in Florida.

We are seeking to hire OPS Research Assistant who desires to work to enhance the delivery of health care services through the Florida Medicaid Program.

This position requires a candidate who is creative, flexible, innovative, and who will thrive in a fast-paced, team based work environment.

This position is located in the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics.

Join Medicaid Data Analytics as we gather, explore, and examine data to provide meaningful and impactful analysis that shapes the future of Florida Medicaid. As the Agency hub for analytics, reporting, and visualization, the Bureau of Medicaid Data Analytics examines critical aspects of Floridians\' health, health care services and costs, and is vital to managed care rate setting, health care economics, and health plan evaluation.

This position is responsible for providing general support in the preparation and reporting of health economic and statistical analyses for the unit/bureau; for data support including (but not limited to) applying knowledge of claims data, encounter transactions, and the Medicaid program to assist in defining, coding, and constructing measures and analytical categories.

This position will provide analytic support for the unit including (but not limited to) assisting in the development of measures to assess health plan performance; assist in the development of healthcare metrics and benchmarks; assist in the development and operation of economic, analytic, and statistical models to assess the quality and cost of healthcare; validate results for projects; and construct charts and tables for reports; and write narrative summarizing analytical results for a non-technical audience.

This position will be paid at the base rate of $25 per hour, non-negotiable.

This position is not a remote or telework position; it will have to report to a Field Office or the Headquarters in Tallahassee.

What is OPS employment?

OPS employment is a temporary employer/employee relationship used for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks. OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignments, and terminations at the discretion of the Agency head or designee. OPS employees do not serve probationary periods or become permanent in their positions because they serve at the pleasure of the Agency head.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge and familiarity with the Florida Medicaid Management Information system and other Florida Medicaid databases is desirable.
  • Knowledge of methods of data collection and analysis.
  • Ability to utilize SAS, SPSS, SQL, or other database programs including Excel and Access.
  • Ability to work with large data sets, preferably health care data.
  • Ability to conduct fact-finding research and utilize problem-solving techniques.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and analyze data to develop alternative recommendations and solve problems.
  • Ability to organize electronic notes and document processes.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively.
  • Ability to organize data into logical format for presentation in reports, documents and other written materials, in both technical and non-technical formats.
  • Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, and follow-through on assignments.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
  • At least two years of experience in health care analysis.
  • At least two years of experience utilizing SAS, SPSS, SQL, or other statistical analysis software or database programs.
  • Additional experience working with large data sets can substitute for experience with health care data.
  • A bachelor\'s degree in a social science or health-related discipline, statistics, economics, or actuarial science is preferred.
  • Professional experience working with claims, encounters, or other health related data or working in a health-related field may substitute for preferred education.
