Research assistants play an important role at MPC, offering essential support for our projects by researching, writing, and learning about planning policy in the region. Research Assistants at MPC have exposure to a broad range of regional policy issues and the opportunity to connect with a variety of planning agencies, community groups and officials. Compensation for research assistant positions is $18 per hour. MPC also provides $35 transportation subsidy. We welcome students with federal work-study and those seeking course credit to apply.
The stormstore research assistant will assist in the implementation of the StormStore project-a partnership with The Nature Conservancy to establish Stormwater Trading Markets in NE Illinois. This project requires an entrepreneurial mindset, including the ability to context switch from the various stages of research and policy change, to project development and finance. This is a part-time position at 28 hours per week, with a start date of May 1st and ends on September 30th. Responsibilities will include project-related research, outreach to project stakeholders, content development, and other tasks as needed.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Strong research, writing, and analytical skills
- Ability to juggle projects, stay organized, and adhere to timetables
- Ability to work well independently as well as with others
- Ability to distill concise, accurate descriptions of complicated policy issues, or experience writing for lay audiences
- A plus strong computer skills, especially data science and geospatial (GIS)
