Job Description

Job Summary Provide safe and timely geological mine services with pit wall and blasthole mapping, grade control, hard vs. soft ore routing, reconciliation, and identification of near-mine drill targets at the Pan open pit, heap leach mine in eastern Nevada. This position works closely with Mine Operations, Engineering, Exploration, and the Process Departments to provide to maximize production efficiencies and identify value-add opportunities. Essential Functions

• Perform pit and blast pattern mapping of lithology, alteration, structure and material types; interpret and digitize rock type contacts and structures.
• Download and analyze blasthole assay data integrated with blasthole mapping to block out ore and waste splits in MineSight, with a focus on minimizing dilution and optimizing gold grade.
• Identify hard versus soft ores for blending and optimal leach pad placement.
• Account for blast heave and displacement when designing ore and waste splits.
• Oversee blasthole sampling to ensure that representative samples are collected.
• Analyze mine site lab QAQC monthly and weekly housekeeping protocols.
• Inspect pit walls for slope stability and provide geological guidance in risk areas.
• Provide geological guidance for short- and long-term planning.
• Complete month-end reporting with explanation of key variances and risks.
• Digitize pit maps into MineSight for inclusion in the geologic block model.
• Support development of 3D geologic models, supported by quarterly drone flights.
• Identify near-mine drill targets with the Exploration team.
• Develop annual budgets and monitor monthly cost variances.
• Develop a comprehensive knowledge of the pit geology and mineralizing controls.
• Assist surveyors with pin flagging ore/waste splits, drill hole pickup, and staking.
• Demonstrate competencies in inter-departmental collaboration, safe work habits and ability to meet deadlines.
• All other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• 1 to 5 years of open pit mine experience, preferably in Carlin-type gold deposits. Underground mine and/or exploration experience are beneficial.
• BS degree in Geology or Geological Engineering. Master s degree in a geological field is an asset.
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Knowledgeable in data management, geological and resource estimation tools.
• Work effectively as part of a team and with minimal supervision.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Meet deadlines and be flexible with daily schedules.
• Experience with 3D mining software, preferably Minesight. Vuclan, Datamine, Micromine or related software are beneficial.

Working Conditions This job will require office and field work under variable weather conditions from hot, dry summers to cold, windy, snowy winters. Time exposure for outdoor work may vary from 0.5 to 6 hours, with 1-2 hours being typical 2-4 days per week. Temperature extremes may vary from 0 to 100oF in a desert climate. The employee will be required to walk on uneven ground that may vary from firm to dusty, muddy or frozen. The employee will conduct field work in an open pit mine at a safe distance from equipment such as drills, haul trucks and loaders. The noise level is low to moderate and hearing protection may be required near equipment. The employee may be occasionally exposed to dust, fumes, pollen, lab chemicals, and vibration.
