Position Summary:
The
Medication Aide
is responsible for the safe and accurate administration of medications to residents, monitoring their health status, and supporting the nursing team in maintaining residents' well-being. This role requires attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to high-quality care.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Medication Administration:
+ Accurately prepare, administer, and document medications according to physician orders and company protocols.
+ Ensure proper storage, handling, and disposal of medications in compliance with regulations.
+ Monitor residents for adverse reactions or side effects and report concerns to the nursing team promptly.
Health Monitoring:
+ Observe and report changes in residents' health status, behavior, and physical condition.
+ Measure and record vital signs as needed.
+ Assist with basic healthcare tasks under the supervision of licensed staff.
Resident Engagement:
+ Build positive relationships with residents through compassionate care and effective communication.
+ Encourage residents' participation in wellness programs and activities.
Safety & Compliance:
+ Follow infection control procedures and maintain compliance with healthcare regulations.
+ Ensure medication carts, records, and supplies are organized, secure, and well-maintained.
+ Respond promptly to emergency situations and assist with emergency care when necessary.
Qualifications:
Education:
+ High school diploma or GED required.
+ Completion of a state-approved Medication Aide training program preferred.
Experience:
+ Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare, senior living, or long-term care setting preferred.
Skills:
+ Strong attention to detail and accuracy in medication administration.
+ Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
+ Compassionate, patient, and attentive to residents' needs.
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Physical Requirements:
+ Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
+ Frequent standing, walking, bending, and reaching.
+ Ability to assist residents with mobility and physical support as needed.
Certifications & Requirements:
+ Active Medication Aide certification in good standing with the state.
+ CPR and First Aid certification preferred.
+ Must successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
