The Fiction team at HarperCollins Christian Publishing and HarperCollins Focus prides itself on strong author relationships, award-winning content, bestselling books, and a cohesive team environment. We are currently seeking a managing editor to join our team. The Fiction team manages Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, and Harper Muse imprints and is proud to publish both Christian and general-market titles by bestselling authors including, but not limited to, Patti Callahan, Charles Martin, Colleen Coble, Melissa Ferguson, Angela Jackson-Brown, Terri Blackstock, and Sean Dietrich, as well as numerous others.


This position is open to an experienced editor who will oversee all data management, coordinate editorial schedules including catalog schedules, run P&Ls for new products, manage rights reversions, and manage a handful of fiction titles from typesetting to bound book, including reviewing proofreader marks and communication with authors. Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and ensure the integrity of our data for online partners and retailers
  • Assign ISBNs and set up new products in MDM
  • Manage and maintain the title plan for the fiction team, making sure all dates, prices, ISBNs, and other important metadata are correct and up to date.
  • Orchestrate and monitor team catalog schedule, process, reminders, and submission of deliverables
  • Run P&L reports for potential new acquisitions and author re-signs
  • Manage department reversion requests: respond to author and agent queries, complete reversion request form, query legal team, send internal notification and update MDM when rights are reverted
  • Maintain master schedule for the editorial team, as well as coordinate agendas for and scheduling of the editorial meetings.
  • Develops excellent working relationships with colleagues, including acquisitions editors, marketing and publicity staff, salespeople, production staff, designers, typesetters, and freelancers.
  • Updates reprint corrections.
  • Attends and contributes to production meetings, as well as various other team meetings (acquisitions, editorial, titling, etc.)
  • Participate in cross-company Managing Editorial Meetings, as called by the Senior Director of Publishing Operations, gleaning training and information related to process, systems, and data.
  • Manage a handful of Fiction front list (5-10 titles per year) through production including coordinating with the typesetting and design teams, managing all proofreading, and ensuring timely delivery of final files to the printer.
  • Responds to manuscript requests from marketing, publicity, and sales.
Qualifications:
Knowledge: Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, and The Chicago Manual of Style


Work Experience:
At least four years editorial or project management experience and preferably in the book publishing industry with proven ability to meet deadlines and prioritize multiple projects.


Education:
Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in English, journalism, or related field


Industry Knowledge:
Keeps up with trends in the publishing industry; familiarity with both the Christian and general market industries.


Skills:
  • Able to handle simultaneously many projects in various stages of completion.
  • Editorial and team-based skills.
  • Detail oriented; eagle-eyed at catching errors.
  • Able to learn new systems quickly, such as HarperCollins\xe2\x80\x99 proprietary software for managing manuscripts
  • Collaborative team player
