Norfolk Southern Corporation is currently seeking a strategic leader in Agile and Scaled Agile executive engagement, team management, and design thinking. This position is an enterprise leadership role that provides Enterprise Business Agility expertise and operational execution. The role requires an innovative communicator with strong interpersonal skills in order to establish relationships with business partners at all levels of Norfolk Southern and is considered the go-to expert on Agile. This role partners with leaders across the organization to define the Agile strategies and maturity roadmaps and will be a key thought-leader in organizational design as we continue to drive to enterprise business agility. This role must also direct existing teams of Agile Coaches that directly support agile, lean maturity across product teams, software development, infrastructure, and security teams.

As part of the management team and considered a trusted strategic advisor to each business unit: Marketing, Operations, Legal, Finance and Transformation. This position reports to the Director Lean Portfolio Office, who is responsible for Lean Portfolio Management, program management, organizational change management, quality assurance strategy, Agility and DevSecOps. This position also works closely with all IT and Product Leadership teams to mature agile practices and mindsets.

Essential Functions:

  • Hires, retains, and leads a team of diverse Agile Coaches.
  • Partners across the organization to prioritize training and adoption of agile practices.
  • Hands-on Lean Agile/Product coach, accelerating the learning of a Product Mindset, Agile practices across Norfolk Southern
  • Owns strategic roadmaps to implement and mature organizational agility including onboarding new teams to agile and SAFe practice.
  • Ensures successful delivery of Agile training programs as necessary to mature practices.
  • Recognizes organizational and team-level challenges and address those with ALL levels of management in a timely fashion.
  • Changes mindsets to adopt a forward-thinking learning culture, including collaboration practices, through training and coaching.
  • Helps teams and product management understand what opportunities they have to sharpen product development skillsets to ensure the delivery of valuable products and incorporate product feedback back into the delivery process.
  • Displays knowledge of the application of Agile at scale and demonstrated ability to coach and lead the cultural and organizational change to make it work.
  • Evaluates a Teams ARTS operational health (e.g. team dynamics, agile delivery, product awareness) in order to identify opportunity for improvements, and help these teams mature their practices and more effectively embrace an agile and product mindset.
  • Establishes partnerships with business, peer lines of business, and the enterprise to share experiences and learnings.
  • Stays aware of current and future trends in Agile practices while turning those learnings into action.
  • Prepares, monitors, and improves metrics that demonstrates the maturity level, speed to market, quality, and other various factors of Agile delivery.
Skills & Qualifications
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to work across the organization, excellent synthesizing and organization skills, a professional demeanor, and the ability to participate in a team environment are key to this position.
  • Requires a mastery of understanding Lean Agile values, principles, and practices.
  • Understands Agile practices including Scrum, Kanban, XP, and SAFe.
  • Implements and operates Agile tools, platforms across some part of the development lifecycle; including JIRA, JIRA Align and Agility Health.
  • Experience teaching and assisting product teams in Lean Product Discovery, Continuous Grooming, Creation of Product Strategy & Roadmap, Customer Empathy, Prioritization, Product experimentation, Definition of Done and Ready.
  • Evaluates product teams operational health (e.g. team dynamics, agile delivery, product awareness) in order to identify opportunity for improvements, and help these teams mature their practices and more effectively embrace an agile and product mindset.
  • Proven knowledge of the application of Agile at scale and demonstrated ability to coach and lead the cultural and organizational change to make it work.
  • Familiarity and experience with agile engineering practices like Test Automation, Test-Driven Development (TDD),
  • Candidates must be continuous learning, open to pivoting and learning new things.
Required Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • 5+ years\' experience in Agile and Scaled Agile executive engagement, team management, and design thinking.
  • 5-10 years\' experience in a software development environment
  • 5+ years\' experience with direct responsibility for leading teams
  • 5+ years\' experience using Agile, SAFe and Lean practices
Preferred Qualifications- Education & Prior Job Experience
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Business, Management, Information Systems or Engineering
  • Agile, Agile Coaching, SAFe Certifications
  • Previous experience leading strategic initiatives.

Environment: Office Remote, but the ideal candidate must be based within 60 miles Atlanta.
