Position Overview
Roots Academy is seeking a Lower Elementary Educator who is excited to teach in a multi-age classroom and thrive in a collaborative, nature-rich environment. The ideal candidate is grounded in best practices for literacy and math instruction, understands the role of executive function and nervous system regulation in learning, and embraces the outdoors as a powerful extension of the classroom.
This role is ideal for an educator who values connection, curiosity, and creativity--and believes that deep learning happens through experience, relationship, and reflection.
Key Responsibilities
Design and facilitate engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons in literacy, math, science, and social studies.
Apply evidence-based teaching practices that support foundational skill development, executive function, and student autonomy.
Incorporate outdoor learning and exploration into daily instruction across content areas.
Support emotional regulation and a classroom culture grounded in curiosity, empathy, and respect.
Collaborate with colleagues to design integrated, place-based projects that connect learning to the community and natural world.
Communicate effectively and consistently with families to foster strong partnerships.
Participate in professional development and contribute to the collaborative life of the school.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Elementary Education or a related field (certification preferred).
Knowledge of best practices in reading and math instruction and how they connect to executive function development.
Experience in multi-age, progressive, or Reggio-inspired learning environments preferred.
Comfort with outdoor learning and enthusiasm for leading lessons in nature across all seasons.
Reflective, flexible, and collaborative educator with a growth mindset.
