Minimum Requirements:

  • holds licensure as a Cosmetologist/Barber in the State of Utah.

Responsibilities:
Patient Hair care Duties
  • Responsible for hair care for all patients in the USH including haircuts, colors, perms, weaves, frosts, etc.
  • Clean and maintain instruments and equipment. Disinfect and sterilize combs, brushes, beauty shop.
  • Keep educated on trends for hair styles, perms, colors etc. Take online or in person coursed to keep these up to date.
  • Teach patients about personal hygiene and haircare. Help prepare patients who are discharging to be responsible for their hygiene and haircare.
  • Keep instruments and supplies safe and locked away from patients.
  • Ensure proper training for working with patients who may not sit still, become agitated etc.
  • Schedule patients for the beauty shop as well as schedule appointments on the units for those patients who aren't allowed to leave the unit.
  • Provide haircuts and other services on the units as needed/requested.
  • Communicate well with patients and staff.
  • Administer satisfaction surveys for patients and discuss outcome of services with patients.
  • Develop and update infection control standards with infection control nurse on an annual basis.
  • Schedule/perform an electrical equipment safety inspection on an annual basis.
Beauty Shop Duties:
  • Maintain a safe, clean and enjoyable environment for the patients.
  • Order equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Manage the beauty shop budget.
  • Keep accurate records of services performed.
  • Keep the beauty shop decorated and neat.
Additional Duties:
  • Serve on the Utah State Hospital CERT team, actively engage in drills and attend meetings/training.
  • Serve on the Utah State Hospital employee activities committee.
  • Assist with the Forgotten Patient Christmas Project.
  • Cover lunch time shifts as switchboard operator, maintain training at switchboard.
  • Keep training up to date such as CPR, SIT, etc.
  • Assist with volunteers services, activities, and other duties as assigned.
