What we\'re looking for
We are looking for a full-time IoT Hardware Engineer to join QuantAQ as our first dedicated hardware engineer. We\'re a small startup team with a rapidly expanding product-market fit, so as an individual contributor, you will quickly gain end-to-end ownership over multiple areas of the business. The ideal candidate has built IoT devices and thrives in early-stage environments where you can wear many hats and provide critical input. The ideal candidate has experience across the entire IoT stack including electrical, mechanical, and embedded systems design, and is comfortable hopping across all three. This role will fill three critical needs for QuantAQ at this stage: (1) provide hardware customer support; (2) design and manufacture internal tools, jigs, and processes; (3) contribute to the improvement of new and existing hardware designs and products. This is a full-time position located at our Somerville, MA office.
Responsibilities
In this position, you will work directly with the engineering staff and report to the Product Lead, who is currently responsible for hardware engineering. Responsibilities of this position include:
Provide hardware customer support for our global fleet of IoT air quality sensors
Create and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure compliance with QuantAQ\'s health and safety protocols
Create and maintain documentation including schematics, BOMs, and test plans
Perform electronics design and development including schematic capture, PCB layout, board bring-up, and engineering validation testing
Optimize hardware designs for cost and manufacturability
Work closely with our CMs to resolve any issues or questions pertaining to our designs
Participate and aid in product assembly when needed
Design and manufacture test fixtures and jigs to improve assembly
Work alongside outside consultants and advisors to accomplish key tasks
Stay up-to-date with new technologies and industry trends to continually improve product design and development processes
Qualifications
Candidates need not meet all requirements below, but the more that you meet, the better match you may be for existing work. Learning new tools on the fly is expected, and hopefully part of the fun.
A bachelor\'s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer engineering, or similar
2+ years of experience designing and developing electronic hardware products
Experience with wireless communications (eg., cellular, BLE, etc)
Experience with embedded systems design and development
Experience with hardware debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and multimeters
Excellent debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems
Familiarity with programming languages such as C++ and Python
Familiarity with controls systems and software (i.e., LabVIEW)
Familiarity with the Particle IoT platform
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Strong organization skills
Ability to challenge assumptions and think independently while executing quickly
