Are you looking for a career in Corrections, Law Enforcement or Criminal Justice? The Pennington County Sheriff\'s Office is seeking Inmate Security Officer applicants to serve in our adult jail facility. Inmate Security Officers serve a vital role in providing a safe and secure environment for staff and inmates. The Pennington County Jail houses nearly 600 inmates on a daily basis and is recognized as one of the top facilities nationally.

Entry level pay for this position is $19.41 per hour with overtime opportunities.

This is a position that requires a high level of multi-tasking skills, integrity, good physical fitness, and the ability to communicate well both written and verbally.

This position is generally staffed daily between 10pm and 7am based on operational needs.

Position Functions

• Performing security rounds during scheduled and unscheduled times. Using discretion to determine violations, unusual situations, and directing the appropriate response.
• Initiating and monitoring inmate movement.
• Attending to the needs of inmates in assigned areas to including responding to inmate inquires as directed.
• Distributing authorized items to inmates.
• Being alert and prepared to respond with force in an emergent situation, and to aid others as outlined in policy.
• understanding and enforcement of the Prison Rape Elimination Act Federal Standards.
• Using discretion in responding to inmate requests
• Responding to emergencies, including medical emergencies.
• Responding to inmate mental health behaviors to include determining risk factors for mental health intervention or implementing suicide precautions.
• Documenting incidents, movement, rounds and inmate discipline.
• Performing person, property, and facility searches.
• Facility inmate movement as directed.
• Operate department computer program; dictate and/or type reports
• Assisting with cell block operational tasks as needed

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• At least 19 years of age
• Preference will be given to those with military, public safety and/or security experience.
• Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen.
