GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Performs electrical inspections, ensuring compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC). Inspections may include construction, remodels, fire alarm tests, and safety inspections on all types of buildings, ensuring compliance with Wyoming Licensing Statutes. Two positions are available. One position will be located in the North West part of the state and another located in the South East part of the state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Provides input for program improvement.
  • Develops program materials.
  • Responsible for on-site inspections, monitoring visits and investigation of complaints.
  • Performs tasks in a variety of regulatory programs in the enforcement of state and federal statutes and rules.
  • Inspects establishments or equipment.
  • Investigates complaints.
  • Provides education and enforces compliance.
  • Maintains records and equipment.
  • Serve as a witness during hearings as requested.
  • Manage a caseload of inspections.
  • Responsible for electrical permit inspections.
  • Performs electrical inspections in residential, institutional, commercial, and industrial occupancies, including related inspection reports and documentation.
  • Uses electrical test equipment and computers for inspection and related reports.
  • Travels within inspection areas performing inspections, investigations, and conducts training seminars.
  • Researches and answers NEC questions.
  • Assists fire investigators regarding electrical caused fires with origin and cause of fires at investigation scenes.


Qualifications
PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to applicants with eight (8) years of work experience in installation, wiring, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment.

AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Agency requires that the successful applicant possess a Wyoming Electrical Masters License within six (6) months of employment.
  • Agency requires that the successful applicant, within one (1) year of employment, must receive an International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI) or International Code Council (ICC) Residential and Commercial Inspector\'s Certification.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Skill in good, safe driving.
  • Skill in use and understanding of electrical test equipment.
  • Skill in oral and written communications.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in the use of GPS is helpful.
  • Skill in basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and Electrical Construction Industry.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:


Education:

Bachelor\'s Degree
Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Inspection) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Inspection Specialist I.

Necessary Special Requirements
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent travel and overnight stays involved weekly in inclement weather and extended hours.

  • FLSA: Non-exempt
  • A background check and fingerprinting will be conducted for this position.
