The successful Building Official is an integral part of an inter-disciplinary team that works seamlessly to deliver enterprise customer service, community safety and health - across program areas and in support of all program areas, including building and development codes.

  • Annual salary range of:
  • $83,800.81 to $125,700.63.
  • This position is eligible for up to two salary raises within your first year. Increases may be given at the end of the 6 month probationary period, depending on starting salary and at the 1 year anniversary, as long as your performance is in good standing! Increases are given until the maximum of the salary range is reached.
  • For most employees who take advantage of health benefits the salary only makes up 60% of their total compensation. The County invests in you and your family!

Minimum Qualifications
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in planning, geography, public administration, Engineering, Architecture or related field from an accredited college or university; AND
  • 5 years of professional work experience in planning, geography, public administration, Engineering, Architecture or closely related field including at least 2 years of which are managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Supervisory experience includes the authority to hire, terminate, assign, reward and discipline other employees.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted. There is no substitute for the supervisory experience.

  • Valid Oregon Driver\'s License. This position requires driving and may require use of a personal vehicle.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Will bring experience working as a building official or similar role with a local government or other public agency.
  • Will have outstanding communication skills, including written, verbal, interpersonal and public facilitation.
