GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This position plans and conducts recreational and therapeutic activities for residents living at the Wyoming Life Resource Center (WLRC) in Lander, WY. These activities include personalized therapy programs at our aquatic center and horticulture facility in addition to recreational activities across campus.

WLRC currently has an Intermediate Care Facility and a newly constructed Skilled Nursing Facility - the first of its kind in the nation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Conduct aquatic and therapeutic sessions to meet the physical, cognitive, and sensory needs of individuals served.
  • Evaluate and personalize adaptive equipment for therapeutic sessions.
  • Collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Team.
  • Provide progress notes as well as daily therapy and recreational attendance documentation.
  • Manage the safety of participants and staff associated with therapeutic service delivery and recreational activities. Assure all participants are following established policies and procedures.
  • Train staff and community groups in safety procedures and precautions.
  • Maintain lifeguard certification.
  • Provide maintenance of the aquatic center, including water testing, filtration system monitoring, ordering of supplies, etc.
  • Provide resident work and sensory experiences at the WLRC greenhouse. Maintain horticulture facility.
  • Provide recreation/leisure activities for residents both on and off campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference may be given to candidates who have one or more years of experience leading aquatic and/or recreational activities.

**Lifeguard certification, or the ability to obtain lifeguard certification, is required.

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Knowledge of recreational therapy practice, principles, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of emergencies and dangerous situations and how to physically respond to them. Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to client health concerns.
  • Skills in written and verbal communication and time management.
  • Skills in problem-solving and training.
  • Ability to use a computer and various software applications.
  • Ability to develop assessments and provide documentation.
  • Skills in safety practices, First Aid and CPR.
  • Knowledge of the benefits and limitations of the range of motion.
  • Knowledge of and skills in a variety of aquatic therapy techniques.
  • Ability to swim and maintain lifeguard certification.
  • Knowledge of greenhouse air temperatures, circulation and venting, plant life, insect and pest control, growing season, and transplanting.
  • Knowledge of swimming pool water testing, maintenance, and compliance.
  • Ability to consistently follow infection control standards.
  • Ability to work with and around WLRC residents, including those who may display challenging behaviors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor\'s Degree (typically in Recreation Therapy)

Experience:

0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in recreational therapy, or in a specialty area such as art, dance, music, or physical education (per tag W178)

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Lifeguard certification

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Ability to lift, twist, bend, kneel, push and pull while working with people with multiple and severe disabilities.
  • Must be able to swim and maintain lifeguard certification.
  • Ability to monitor sounds, noises, location of residents, etc., in order to assure safety and assess imminent danger and emerging concerns.
  • Ability to work in high-stress situations.

  • The Wyoming Life Resource Center participates in E-Verify.
