Job Responsibilities

Manages the completion of various state (SHSP) and federal (HSIP) reports and plans regarding highway safety based on research and analysis of completed safety projects along with proven strategies from the areas of engineering, education, enforcement, and EMS. Manages the Traffic Safety Assessment Program (TSAP) to help improve safety performance on the state\'s highways through the use of low-cost engineering strategies such as signing and marking.

Serves as the project manager for safety projects such as, but not limited to, Roadway Safety Audits (RSA). Will also attend meetings with consultants, SCDOT staff, other agencies, and the general public related to safety projects. Coordinates and participates in field reviews, scoping meetings, & safety reviews as related to traffic safety projects or programs. Assists the Highway Safety Engineer in the preparation, research, and development of Traffic Safety related Engineering Directive Memorandums, policies, specifications, guidelines, standard drawings, research programs, and grant proposals.

Assists the Highway Safety Engineer by recommending project selection criteria, project candidate screening, recommending project selections, and conducting post project reviews in an effort to reduce the frequency of fatal and serious injury crashes on the state highway system. Assists the Highway Safety Engineer in the accomplishment of his/her duties as needed. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor\'s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle license is required.
