We are more than Peers, We\xe2\x80\x99re Partners ready to help! The Health Scientist will examine health data and create files and reports to disseminate findings. Also, the Health Scientist will investigate diseases and conditions created by our surroundings, discovering the link between medical cause and effect. General Duties: \xc2\xb7 Advise scientific staff on accurate classification of specific blood disorders, review of blood disorder fact sheets (6-7 each period of performance) and review draft guidance. \xc2\xb7 Review data analysis, reports, and presentations for programs for the prevention and control of blood disorders, including those related to clotting disorders \xe2\x80\x93 venous thromboembolisms, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism; complications resulting from hemoglobinopathies \xe2\x80\x93 thalassemia and sickle cell disease; and complications resulting from bleeding disorders \xe2\x80\x93 Hemophilia and Von Willebrand Disease. \xc2\xb7 Serve as Subject Matter Expert(s) (SME) for the CDC\xe2\x80\x99s Division of Blood Disorders (DBD) Hemostasis Laboratory, including the review of laboratory quality control data and proficiency testing results, provide input for the approval of new or modified testing procedures, and assurance that laboratory activities meet the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments of 1988 (CLIA) regulations requirements. \xc2\xb7 Review data analysis, reports, and presentations, and participate in 12 team conference calls and monthly meetings (virtual) each period of performance for the national hemophilia surveillance program. \xc2\xb7 Conduct evaluation of laboratory experiments to determine whether data generated are accurate and valid to conduct root cause analysis on non-conforming events unusual or unexpected results and their probable causes. \xc2\xb7 Actively participate in the laboratory quality management system by ensuring the full range of applicable quality controls are correctly conducted. \xc2\xb7 Calibrate and operate laboratory instruments that are necessary to perform specialized tests, analyses, and other standard procedures in conducting experiments and studies. \xc2\xb7 Travel to and participate in various conferences. Qualifications: \xc2\xb7 Skilled in collecting, interpreting, and analyzing data and information from a variety of medical related sources and disseminating the same by preparing reports, responding to inquiries, recommending policies, and providing other substantive documentation as needed. \xc2\xb7 Well-versed versed at interacting with medical professionals and other subject matter experts as well as interfacing with other government, state / local agencies, and industry partners. \xc2\xb7 Background investigation required. Required Education and Experience: \xc2\xb7 Master\xe2\x80\x99s or PhD in scientific, medical, or related healthcare field (Note: work experience may be substituted as an advanced degree). \xc2\xb7 Ten (10)+ years of professional experience providing scientific / regulatory expertise and guidance across a wide range of Public Health Programs. \xc2\xb7 Significant experience with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Regulations.
