Position Overview



HFUF is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Grants & Program Manager to help strengthen our capacity to manage programs and secure funding to sustain them. This position will be housed under HFUF but will support the work of both HFUF and HFU. Reporting directly to the COO, the Grants & Program Manager will play a key role in the organization's growth by overseeing grant administration, assisting with program implementation and reporting, and supporting fundraising and development efforts.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, and able to balance strategic grant management with hands-on program coordination. This position requires strong communication, time management, and writing skills, along with a passion for Hawai'i's agricultural and community food systems.

Key Responsibilities



Grant Management & Fund Development



Research and identify public and private funding opportunities that align with HFUF's mission and program goals. Collaborate with the COO to develop, write, and submit competitive grant proposals, renewals, and reports. Track grant deliverables, budgets, and timelines to ensure compliance and timely reporting. Maintain a grant calendar and database of funders, deadlines, and outcomes. Support donor stewardship, acknowledgment, and sponsor engagement efforts in collaboration with leadership.

Program Oversight & Implementation



Provide administrative and coordination support for new and existing HFUF/HFU programs, particularly those funded by grants. Work with program leads to ensure deliverables are tracked, data is collected, and outcomes are reported accurately. Assist in developing and implementing new initiatives that advance food access, regenerative agriculture, and farmer education statewide. Help streamline reporting systems, communication, and accountability processes across programs.

Collaboration & Communication



Work closely with the COO and administrative staff to align grant and program goals with HFUF's strategic priorities. Support inter-island communication with program teams, partners, and funders. Represent HFUF professionally in partner meetings, community events, and convenings as needed. Help develop and contribute to to storytelling and outreach materials that highlight HFUF's program impact.

Qualifications



Education:



Bachelor's degree in Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Agriculture, Environmental Studies, Business, or a related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.

Experience:



Minimum of 3 years of experience in grant writing, program coordination, or nonprofit project management. Experience managing budgets, tracking deliverables, and preparing grant or funder reports. Familiarity with agricultural, environmental, or community-based organizations in Hawai'i is strongly preferred.

Skills & Attributes:



Excellent writing and editing skills, with attention to clarity and tone. Strong organizational and time management abilities; able to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Collaborative, adaptable, and comfortable working in a small team environment. Proficiency with Google Workspace and project management tools. Commitment to HFUF's mission, values, and kuleana to farmers and ??ina.

Work Environment & Expectations



Fully remote position based in Hawai'i, with occasional interisland travel for meetings, site visits, and events (including the annual HFUF convention). Must be self-directed, reliable, and able to manage projects independently while maintaining strong communication with the team.

Compensation & Benefits



Salary range: $85,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, paid time off, and professional development opportunities.
