Detroit Action is hiring a full-time Coordinator to develop and deliver workers\xe2\x80\x99 rights organizing and training, leadership development and conduct outreach to unions to strengthen the Detroit Action\xe2\x80\x99s Good Jobs Now Worker Center relationships with workers and small businesses. The GJN Program Coordinator will be responsible for producing a high level of quality work as they help to lead DA\xe2\x80\x99s economic justice campaigns and worker rights fights. Through collaboration with our Programs, Organizing and Political teams, the GJN Coordinator will advance a strategy towards shared prosperity in Metro Detroit for Black and Brown workers. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Education and Outreach: Coordinate the Worker Center programming and training (i.e. political education, ESL, Art and Computer Classes, Skills and Safety Trainings, and Wage Theft through our local partnerships) Assisting in the maintenance of training project resources (e.g., training aids, intake forms, database management, and outcomes), etc. Facilitate workshops for workers on safety and health, wage and hour laws, discrimination and other workers\xe2\x80\x99 rights issues. Participating in all aspects of course & trainer evaluation. Conduct outreach to the immigrant community, unions, and community organizations to educate them about the DA training and technical assistance resources Collaborate with Detroit Action youth organizer, member-leaders and stakeholders to create workforce training and programming for young adults and high schoolers. Provide support and encouragement to union shop floor members who are willing to become leaders in promoting health and safety, both within their bargaining unit and more broadly. Service and Mutual Aid: Supervise Worker Center interns, volunteers and program administrative operations. Connect workers with resources available in the community as needed Case Management: Conduct intake with the Program\'s department for workers that come to the GJN seeking for help with worker issues, services, and other resources. Organizing and Advocacy Collaborate with Detroit Action digital team to support digital outreach and online 2 offline organizing. Use your outreach, canvassing, campaign, organizing and leadership development skills to execute strategic campaigns developed as a team. Identify and engage potential DA members and leaders by conducting relational one on one conversations on issues surrounding jobs and worker rights. Work with DA member leaders to coordinate house parties, town halls, and community events with an emphasis on Economic Justice and equitable development. Create actions, training and mobilization opportunities in order to activate DA members and develop their political consciousness. Track engagement of members, neighborhood leaders and community partners in DA database Turn-out low-income workers and Detroiters, allies, and stakeholders to DA events through relationship building, phone-banking, house parties, and door to door canvassing. Attend community meetings, events and actions on behalf of DA Participate in organization-wide program efforts and partner efforts that engage the community as needed Coordinate Worker Justice Committee monthly meetings. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work with the Political, Organizing and Membership Canvass team to identify and collect stories; Support the vetting and training storytellers to spread their message online; Help train staff to communicate on issues affecting communities of interest among members; Organize and lead workplace direct actions targeting \xe2\x80\x9cbad actor\xe2\x80\x9d employers. Convene industry standards board in the city of Detroit. Other duties as assigned by the Organizing Director and Senior Leadership Team. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Good Jobs Now Coordinator reports to the Campaign Manager and works collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors and other partners on a weekly basis to maintain program efficiency. Detroit Action and Detroit Action Education Fund are projects of Tides Advocacy and Tides Center. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift boxes of training materials. Able to attend conferences throughout the United States. Must be able to travel domestically on an airplane 4-8 times a year. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is a full-time position that works an average of 40 hours per week. This position is hybrid and based in an office building in Detroit, MI - The position will be required to work some weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The position may require travel some of the time. The assigned workspace is a cubicle in an open and shared work area with a moderate level of noise and interruptions. About the Organization: Detroit Action and its sister organizations, Detroit Action Education Fund and Michigan Action, are hosted projects of Tides Advocacy and Tides Center. We are affiliate partners of the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) and the Alliance for Youth Action. The successful candidate will receive generous benefits as provided by Tides. The salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years\xe2\x80\x99 experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to start at $55,000.
