JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION
Food Services Supervisor

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Superintendent

POSITION OBJECTIVE / SUMMARY
Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school lunchroom program for the ultimate health, comfort, and benefit of the students.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts business, or a related field.
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with any academic major or area of concentration, and a state-recognized certificate in food and nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, or business.
  • Associate\xe2\x80\x99s degree, or equivalent educational experience, with academic major or concentration in food and nutrition, culinary arts, business, or a related field, and at least one year of relevant school nutrition programs experience.
  • High school diploma and 5 years of relevant experience in school nutrition programs.
  • At least 8 hours of food safety training is required either 3 years prior to their starting date or completed with 30 days of employee\xe2\x80\x99s starting date.
  • Each year must complete at least 15 hours of annual continuing education/training.
  • Must possess a good working knowledge of foods, including the planning of menus.
  • Must be able to keep accurate records of all phases of the lunch program.
  • Must understand the Federal Lunch Program
  • Must pass background check.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • Effective Date: August 1, 2023 (with late July flex days for training)
  • Hours of Work: 8 hours per day / 210 day contract
  • Salary negotiable based on qualifications / experience / certifications
  • Valid Ohio driver\xe2\x80\x99s license
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Apply and enforce federal and state food service regulations and Board of Education policies and administrative guidelines.
  • Direct and supervise the work of all food service staff.
  • Annually evaluate all food service staff.
  • Evaluate and resolve all food service equipment and food commodity issues, including ordering, pricing, and inventorying items.
  • Interview candidates and recommend for potential hire in food service operations.
  • Investigate complaints concerning food service staff and recommend discipline of employees as appropriate.
  • Prepare and send the proper paperwork to the State.
  • Purchase supplies and food and coordinate delivery of same.
  • Assist treasurer with equipment depreciation.
  • Code cash register for new prices.
  • Administer free and reduced lunch program, including maintenance of free and reduced lunch eligibility and information and provision of information to the EMIS Coordinator.
  • Create databases for food service operations.
  • Report all incoming money.
  • Prepare bills for treasurer.
  • Approve time sheets, sick and personal leave for employees.
  • Create menus, production reports, and breakdown sheets.
  • Determine and implement changes required by State and Federal regulations.
  • Prepare purchase requests estimates for the year.
  • Check Co-op prices.
  • Prepare communications to school community and enter menus onto the Tri-Village website.
  • Standardize recipes to State requirements.
  • Supervise staff in creating new menu ideas and special projects.
  • Do training on cash register and health department regulations.
  • Prepare for and participate in State and Federal audits.
  • Correct health department violations and State violations if they occur.
  • Ensure compliance with Health Department requirements such as: temperature control, cooling, etc., in job duties.
  • Know and train food service employees on procedures in the kitchen, and other job assignments in the event that duties need filled (such as cashier, dishwasher, server, head cook assignment, etc., as instructed by the food service supervisor).
  • Complete all required reports in a timely manner.
  • Work diligently and efficiently at assigned tasks and offer to help others when needed, as a "team."
  • Follow standardized recipes (when available) as directed by the Ohio School Food Service Association.
  • Maintain an orderly, clean and sanitized work area, which may include the pantry, refrigerators, freezers, locker room and all areas classified as the kitchen.
  • Know and adhere to rigid sanitary standards.
  • Know and follow the health department\xe2\x80\x99s rules and regulations.
  • Prepare and serve food in an attractive manner.
  • Participate in District meetings, as appropriate.
  • Responsible for any moneys when assigned the task of money handling.
  • In case of an absent employee, or an emergency, move to a different assignments to fulfill the jobs.
  • Immediately report maintenance issues to the Maintenance and Custodial Supervisor.
  • Dress in a safe and appropriate manner which reflects your position, as a role model for the students, and as an authority figure in the District.
  • Ensure adequate trash disposal.
  • Ensure floors are cleaned daily and assist in performing daily cleaning routine.
  • Remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District.
  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings and help instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values.
  • Perform such other duties related to the operation and cleanliness of District food service operations as directed by the Superintendent.
