Overview

The Financial Officer Sr. directs the fiscal management and delivery of business services for the USU College of Engineering. The position shares a coordinated reporting line to the Dean of Engineering and the Executive Director of Budget & Planning. The Financial Officer Sr. must demonstrate strong emotional intelligence skills balanced with superb technical acumen. This position cultivates effective working relationships within the organization and maintains an open-minded approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Provides financial management support to the Dean.
  • Understands and supports the mission and vision of the Dean.
  • Provides counsel and advice to the Dean and other leaders regarding financial, budget, and other business-related issues using tools such as financial analysis and report writing.
  • Participates as a member of the Dean\xe2\x80\x99s senior team.
  • Manages unit budgets from a variety of funding sources, exhibiting expertise on allowable uses of different fund types.
  • Ensures compliance with university, state, and federal policies and regulations, while maintaining appropriate internal control safeguards.
  • Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on university planning and policy-making committees.
  • Leads and supports all Business Services staff within the college, including the Utah Water Research Laboratory and the ASPIRE Engineering Research Center.
  • Enables a cohesive team approach to providing effective financial management and business transaction support for the college.
  • Trains and mentors business services staff to maintain a successful and effective operation.
  • Builds strong relationships of trust with faculty, staff, leadership and other constituents of the college.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualification:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in a business field plus six years of experience or an equivalent combination of education plus experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Experience with the Banner database system (
) * Experience at an institution of higher education.
  • Experience with financial management of grants and contracts (sponsored research).
