300 hours term full-time term, Stipend of $1416 month, Education Award $1,374.60 upon successful completion of service. Friday-Sunday 9:00 am-6:00 pm. Hours and days may vary. The AmeriCorps member will assist in stewardship projects and events throughout the Black Rock Desert High Rock Canyon Emigrant Trails National Conservation Area (NCA). Will assist in planning and executing stewardship projects and events including; improving and maintaining backcountry trails, installing wilderness boundary markers, flag fencing in sage grouse habitat, Black Rock Rendezvous, National Trails Day, and 4th of July and Perseids Meteor Shower camp-out events. Required Knowledge, skills, abilities: flexibility regarding work service, weekends will be required, basic computer skills, valid driver\'s license, enjoy the outdoors and camping, willingness to work in inclement weather, self-motivated and ability to multi-task, excellent communication skills, including public speaking, presentation, and written communication, strong organizational skills. This position involves some camping and backpacking and stewardship projects will be conducted outdoors, often in remote locations where camping will be at undeveloped recreation sites. The functions of this position may be completed with or without reasonable accommodations.
Member Duties : Assist and lead a variety of stewardship and volunteer projects in the Black Rock NCA, assist with event planning and coordination, recruit and train volunteers for restoration and stewardship projects, outreach, and cultivation in the Friends of Black Rock High Rock Visitor Center in Gerlach, Nevada, participate in tabling at community events. Related Responsibilities: promote FBRHR, the NCA, and AmeriCorps in a positive manner at all times as a point of contact with the public, work with local members of the community of Gerlach to share sustainable practices, compose articles for the website and newsletters speaking about the work of the organization to cultivate volunteers and membership, develop creative solutions to enhance volunteerism, maintain a safe, organized and professional work environment.
