Job Description




Are you a facilities management professional with experience managing staff, budgets, and contracts? Do you have experience in facility maintenance and operations, building efficiency, project management, tenant safety, and emergency preparation/response? This is your chance to join our team as a Facilities Manager!

Principal Duties
As a Facilities Manager, you will:

  • Manage the maintenance staff at your assigned complex, including hiring, assigning workload, performance review, discipline and termination.
  • Manage day-to-day building maintenance and operations.
  • Manage building efficiency and utility consumption program.
  • Act as a project manager on capital improvement projects.
  • Work with Project Managers on capitol development projects, if needed.
  • Manage janitorial, elevator and other service contracts (security, grounds management, waste management).
  • Participate in building safety and emergency preparation and response.
  • Manage building maintenance budgets.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor befitting a formal government environment while interacting with and presenting to dignitaries.
  • Facilitate collaboration with other facility groups and resource pools.
The Best Qualified Candidate
The best qualified candidate for this position will have:
  • Experience in personnel management.
  • Experience in building maintenance and operations; including mechanical, electrical, HVAC, and other systems.
  • Experience in contract management.
  • Experience in budget management.
  • Experience in emergency preparation and response.
  • Experience in building efficiency and utility consumption.
  • Experience in laboratory support equipment and operations.
  • The ability to communicate clearly verbally and in writing to communication with all levels of government. The answers to your application questions may be used to rate your writing ability.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

The Division of Facilities Construction and Management ( ) is dedicated to providing professional services to assist State entities in meeting their facility needs for the benefit of the public, and is the building manager for all State owned facilities.

  • Working Conditions: Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
  • Physical Requirements: Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • DHRM rules apply for promotions/transfers.
  • Facilities Managers are required to be on-call on a rotating schedule.
