The Role

This position is within the CLB ENG-WR Piping group of E92. This person provides engineering review of Columbia Class Submarine Construction Visual Work Instructions (VWIs) and other Build Authority Documents primarily within the Piping Engineering discipline. These reviews are performed within a model based manufacturing environment.

Ensures the build authority information provided within the VWI is consistent with the applicable technical authority documents. Reviews engineering change documents for applicability and proper incorporation within the build authority documents. Applies engineering and submarine construction knowledge towards the validation of welds, notes, and dimensions for COLUMBIA class submarine construction. Provides training to entry level engineers. Participates in development of processes and procedures. Interacts and collaborates with VWI Developers, Construction Trade Representatives, and Planning Personnel to ensure proper understanding of the work to be performed by and the requirements required of the VWI. Regularly participates in collaboration meetings. Frequently uses collaboration tools such as WebEx and Jabber. Uses Teamcenter, NGP, NX, SAP, and 1Tool daily to complete assigned tasks.

Researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and use of energy. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

Must Have

5 Years with Bachelors in Science; 3 Years with Masters; 0 Years with PhD.- Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor\'s Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

Experience with submarine engineering technical authority and build authority documents. Engineering experience within the Columbia program is highly preferred. Experience as a Piping Engineer is preferred. Knowledge of piping design, installation, assembly, hanger details. Familiar with weld joint designs typical to piping systems. Familiar with piping system mechanical connections. Experience using Teamcenter, NGP, NX, and SAP is highly preferred, but not required. Understands and applies Engineering Procedures to Manufacturing Processes and Production Methods within a model based environment.
