EMS/Trauma Nurse Manager

The EMS/Trauma Manager serves as the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and Trauma Services Administrator who manages the operational activities of the LGH EMS which includes 35 separate departments & Trauma Service Programs which includes 11 Level II Trauma Centers, thereby promoting optimal prehospital and trauma care, in the context of a regionalized Trauma and EMS System, through clinical, administrative, professional, educational, and quality improvement activities. The EMS/Trauma Manager collaborates with the EMS & Trauma Directors to ensure that Adv. Lutheran General Hospital, complies with the standards set forth by State of Illinois regulations and the American College of Surgeons guidelines for a Level I Trauma Center.

Major Responsibilities:

Manages and directs the operational and Administrative Aspects of the LGH Emergency Medical Services (EMS) which includes 35 Departments and Trauma Service program with includes 11 Level II Trauma Centers, as an Associate Hospital in the Northwest Community and St Francis EMS Systems and a Level I Trauma Center for Illinois.

  • Manages the 1.0 FTE EMS Coordinator and 2.0 FTE EMS Educators and 2.0 FTE Trauma Case Managers, 3.0 FTE Trauma Registry Coordinators, and 1.0 FTE Trauma Sec. III2.
  • Direct liaison for Illinois Department of Public as a recognized Associate Hospital and Level I Trauma Center. Collaborative relationships with EMS and Trauma Medical Directors, State EMS and Trauma Advisory Board Members and Resource Hospital EMS Coordinators.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs to meet the needs of the three EMS Systems and 11 Level II Trauma Systems. This includes education for pre-hospital personnel in 35 Departments as well as RN\xe2\x80\x99s in the hospital setting.
  • Direct the formation, implementation and maintenance of the Quality Assurance Program for LGH EMS, working collaboratively to meet the QA needs of Trauma and the Emergency Department; the results of which provide a feedback loop for ongoing process improvement and educational opportunities.   • Develops and oversees EMS and community outreach and Injury Prevention programs
  • Responsible for the implementation and oversite of the IDPH designated Level One Trauma Center and Participation in three EMS Systems which involves coordination 11 Level II Trauma Centers in Region IX.
  • Directs the Region Trauma Advisory Committee Meetings, the Reg. IX Trauma Coordinator Meetings, provide representation on the Reg.9 EMS Advisory Committee
  • Develops and maintains written transfer agreements with the Regional Level II Trauma Centers, and appropriate Burn and Spinal Cord Centers
  • Responsible for the integration of research while striving for excellence in patient care.
  • Directs the development, coordination and implementation of a Regional quality assessment/process improvement plan.
Manages and oversees the coordination of care of identified complex trauma patients.
  • Responsible for the budgetary management while maintaining quality patient outcomes across the continuum.
  • Provides coordination and overall integration of the Trauma Service program within the multidisciplinary environment. Directs on-site Trauma Center Designation Surveys, and Re-designation Applications to IDP1
  • Responsible for development of the care management strategies of complex trauma patients in terms of length of stay and resource consumption in multiple settings.
  • Meet the clinical development needs of staff, other healthcare team members, patients, their families and the community at large.
  • Directs the development, coordination, and/or implementation of educational opportunities to lead the Trauma QA/PI/M&M activities at Lutheran General Hospital; Analyzes trauma related statistical data to identify trends, follow up on issues, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Supervises the integration of research into LGH trauma care
  • Responsible for the development, implementation, and ongoing reassessment of Trauma standards of care, protocols, and objectives.
Develops and coordinates community outreach programs as they relate to EMS/Trauma/Disaster Preparedness/LGH and the communities we serve.
  • Acts as expert resource and provides education and tools to the ALGH Emergency Department associates to ensure knowledge of ALGH role as the EMS Region IX Hospital during activation of the State Medical Disaster Plan
  • Serves as lead resource to the EMS Region area: municipal agencies, local emergency management agencies, county boards of health, Red Cross and community agencies regarding the Regional Disaster Plan
  • Assesses educational needs and collaborates in the development and implementation of Regional education programs to comply with IDPH requirements.
  • Leads the development and planning for injury prevention programs for the community at large.
  • Responsible for and implements outreach efforts for both EMS & Trauma. Ensures feedback is provided to referring hospital and prehospital care providers for the purposes of continuity of care and Quality Assurance.
Demonstrates a commitment to the pursuit of education, monitors quality improvement and research activities for the department and collects EMS field data and Trauma registry data.

  • Manages the oversight of the educational needs of EMS providers and trauma program associates.
  • Supervises, coordinates and manages the education of EMS and Trauma Services.
  • Represents specialty on specific hospital, regional, or State teams.
  • Maintains clinical knowledge through continuous learning.
  • Represents LGH Trauma and EMS with governmental agencies and interprets the Illinois EMS Act and its amendments to ensure LGH Compliance
Serves as the hospital liaison for State Trauma Registry activities.
Supervises the Trauma Office Secretary III and is responsible for the day to day operations of the Trauma Office.
Supervises the Trauma Registry Coordinators. Ensures timely and accurate data submission to the Trauma Registry and Violence Registry, as required by IDPH and the 77 Illinois Administrative Code.

Licensure:
  • Nurse, Registered (RN)
Education/Experience Required:
  • BSN required (master\'s preferred) 5-6 years critical care experience in emergency/trauma care Experience at a Level I or II Trauma Center/IDPH Resource Hospital preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Flexibility & Resilience Adequately developed: Communication skills Interpersonal skills Leadership skills
  • Licensed RN in the State of Illinois Current ACLS, , TNS, TNCC, PALS/PEPP as related to field
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • 24 hour accountability Flexibility-unusual work hours under stressful conditions Frequent off-site traveling to classrooms, fire departments, Associate Hospitals and IDPH state meetings
Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $100,000.00 - $130,000.00 per year
