Job Description

Lake Champlain Waldorf School has an immediate opening for an Educational Support Specialist. The specialist will be responsible for coordinating academic support services for students and working closely with teachers to support the academic growth of students. This position will be an integral part of our student support team, and as such will work closely with our Lower School Special Educator, our School Counselor and our Head of School. The Educational Support Specialist oversees integrated school efforts to address students academic needs, identifies areas of deficit through administering appropriate assessments, and coordinates support between school personnel and professionals to provide additional support and interventions.



The specialist participates in meetings with district special education teams to develop Instructional/Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and determine the necessary support. In addition, the Educational Support specialist drafts and manages internal support plans for our students. This is a highly collaborative role facilitating active communication among teachers, parents, educational support coordinators, and other professionals. This position will be active in the classroom, supporting and leading general instruction, and also will plan and deliver small group differentiated instruction to students in grades 7-12.



The role of this person is to ensure that each childs academic needs are addressed according to thoughtfully-planned instruction and through the use of appropriate interventions, accommodations and support.General Responsibilities: Provide academic support to students Provide classroom academic support to teachers and students Consult with parents, teachers, administrators, and supporting agencies concerning the academic needs and abilities of students Guide and recommend professional development for teachers with regard to learning differences Update and maintain confidential student records, including cumulative transcripts and student files Help identify students with learning differences and/or other special needs and make appropriate recommendations and referrals Assist with coordinating and implementing academic support services Assist Enrollment Director with questions regarding educational support for prospective students Stay aware of current research findings, innovative techniques, and best practices related to student academic support
