Janssen Business Development (BD) leads activities related to scientific finding, licensing, alliance management, divestitures, and other deal structures in support of overall company strategy as well as global initiatives related to Licensing, Acquisitions and Divestitures.

The BD team has close day-to-day working relationship with Commercial, R&D, Finance, Pricing, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Global and Regional Business Development, Global Strategic Marketing and Legal functions.

The Director, Scientific Licensing, Immunology supports the therapeutic area (TA) licensing strategy and its execution by identifying, and evaluating opportunities that align with the strategy, building meaningful internal and external scientific relationships and is accountable for assessment and leading diligence teams across the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership skills as well as strong interpersonal communication is required.

  • Accountable for identification of target opportunities and companies via a process by which detailed screening in areas of interest is performed such that no opportunities are missed.
  • Building strategic and scientific relationships with representatives of target companies and with KOLs
  • Lead the scientific evaluation opportunities (including the coordination and management of the formal due diligence process) across R&D
  • Collaborating with commercial assessment team to provide scientific input to commercial assessment and ensure scientific evaluation addresses key value drivers
  • Responsible for establishing and developing key relationships in R&D, identifying internal scientific champions for deal opportunities and owning the upward scientific communication of external opportunities
  • Ensuring all business development opportunities progressing to contracting and beyond meet the internal portfolio standards of scientific excellence, that development risks are identified, adequately communicated, and debated with R&D leadership and that mitigation strategies are captured and accounted for in the development plans and costs
  • Collaborating with the TA department heads and the VP BD/Sr. Director Licensing for Immunology, responsible for ensuring that R&D resources are engaged in an orderly, efficient, timely and cost-effective manner in the evaluation of licensing opportunities for the TA
  • In collaboration with other JBD colleagues, contribute to the development and improvement of processes, templates and data capture systems to be applied by the BD group to attain the highest professional standards in the execution of duties.
  • The candidate will work closely with the Innovation Centers to support each other to ensure seamless Immunology execution
Qualifications

Education:
  • A minimum of a Master\'s degree is required.
  • A PhD, PharmD, or MD is preferred.
Experience And Skills:

Required:
  • Requires a minimum 10 years of related business experience
  • Expertise within the Immunology therapy area is required.
  • This position will require up to 30% domestic and international travel.
Preferred:
  • Experience in participating on scientific due diligence teams is preferred.
Drug Discovery or Drug Development with a large portion of that experience being gained in an industry setting is preferred

Other:
  • Strong communication and presentation skills required.
  • Proven track record to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously required.
  • The position requires: critical thinking and decision making; demonstrated resiliency and learning agility; excellent communication skills; willingness to collaborate with others. The successful candidate will share overall TA scientific licensing responsibilities with other members of the TA BD team.
The base pay range for this position is $142,000 to $244,950. The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation\'s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company\'s discretion on an individual basis.
