This Director of Programs manages and oversees a Pediatric Research Operations Team comprised of high-functioning individuals working together toward fulfilling our mission of transforming child health through high-impact research. The selected candidate will partner with pediatric research leaders to direct the strategic planning, development, implementation, and activities of twelve child health focused research centers. The scope of work and areas of responsibility include:


Leader/partner in strategic planning, goal setting, and implementation

  • In collaboration and partnership with pediatrics research leadership, plans, orchestrates and directs the design and implementation of programs and events to accomplish strategic growth of child health research and research education.
  • Designs and implements system related events including research leadership meetings (both scientific and operational) scientific seminars, annual and other periodic and routine conferences, and scientific networking sessions; Leads the team responsible for planning and executing these events.
  • Facilitates setting operational and scientific goals and then establishes and tracks towards agreed upon milestones.
  • Responsible for overseeing activities related to meeting broad system needs including metrics collection, website updates, event planning, and other logistical aspects of research centers and scientific cores management and oversight.

Goal tracking and productivity reporting
  • Sources and curates lists of high impact research-relevant accomplishments, projects, and events and circulates to the relevant audiences.
  • Directs the implementation of a consistent reporting structure including written and verbal communication of return on investment metrics related to cores, centers, and pilots including grant funding and publication reports.
  • Collaborates with research leadership and financial team to monitor research infrastructure and program support budgets; recommends adjustments towards meeting system goals.

Internal and external communications
  • Authors, inventories, and disseminates research-relevant announcements and information to the necessary audiences via appropriate channels including but not limited to a pedsresearch.org website and a 1500+ person pediatric research listserv.
  • Serves as central point of contact for pediatric research inquiries across multiple Atlanta-based research institutes including Emory, Georgia Tech, and Children\xe2\x80\x99s Healthcare of Atlanta. Serves as a primary point of contact for questions and guidance.

Team leadership and supervisory responsibilities
  • Directs, supervises, and oversees activities of an operations-focused research team (5 direct reports and multiple indirect reports) to accomplish research goals of the enterprise.
  • Leads continuous improvement efforts to revise and contribute new content to an existing large library of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensures activities across the twelve research centers are accomplished in a consistent fashion to meet the established standards.
  • Represents the operations-focused team in larger settings including at weekly research leadership team meetings and executive research meetings.



JOB DESCRIPTION:
  • Directs the strategic planning, development and implementation of a large and complex program or of several smaller programs.

  • May represent the program in various national and international settings.
  • May manage the solicitation of funding from foundation, corporate, individual and governmental donors.
  • Collaborates with and seeks the support of representatives from other organizations.
  • Establishes and administers policies and procedures.
  • Supervises staff.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in a discipline related to program work and seven years of related experience which includes two years at a management level, OR equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
