Job Description


Category Managers at GovX are passionate, ambitious, strategic self-starters who are eager to drive the business. They excel in merchandising, leadership, communication, negotiation, problem solving, analytics and are masters of their categories. In 2023, GovX has a catalog of over 1,000 sellers and growing, and as the Director of the category management team, you must motivate your team to understand how to best optimize these partnerships to achieve revenue, margin, and order targets.

You must also understand the market and work with Category Managers to develop their businesses, to capitalize on current trends and most importantly, have complete ownership of their categories. Category Managers must oversee partner relationships and value to the business which includes margin, revenue targets, upselling, contracts, billing, logistics, customer experience and customer engagement with their categories. You will also own the margin plan from the GovX Catalog and work with your team to achieve that plan by developing upsell and retention KPIs.

You will have interface across various departments at a growing company, from associate level all the way up to C-Suite and must be able to communicate as such.

Ultimately, you are responsible for working with your team to optimize the catalog with selection and price and managing partner relationships with a B2B focused mindset, with seller retention at the forefront.

Detailed Description and Sample Tasks

  • Develops remote team to enhance skills as well as team performance by:
  • Managing, motivating, and providing direction to direct reports.
  • Managing risks, setting priorities, and coaching personnel to achieve objectives and key results.
  • Advocate for team cross functionally to build scalability and ensure that team members can focus on initiatives that grow the business.
  • Oversee senior as well as entry-level team members.
  • Support Category Managers in managing partner relationships and work to strategically build effective partnerships within each category in order to achieve all financial goals (orders, gross merchandise value and margin).
  • Develop and present executive-level metrics that show the health of the catalog, category performance, and budget actualization for our core business verticals.
  • Partner with the Chief Revenue Officer to develop 3-year budget and plan.
  • Manage Category Management targets and develop variable compensation tied to achieving targets.
  • Develop tactics to help successfully sell partners across product lines: GovXID (Verification), GovX Marketplace (Affiliate) and Marketing Services.
  • Work with legal team to develop and tweak contracts to ensure partners and GovX understand the terms of the relationship and relationship is optimized to deliver for both parties.
  • Maintain forecasts across categories and business units monthly and communicate risks and upside to management.
  • Work with the marketing team to develop processes that allow us to display catalog breadth and surface the right brands/products to the right end-user.
  • Partner with the Sales Manager to direct the outbound team\xe2\x80\x99s efforts by category to ensure we develop a catalog that best serves the needs of our member base, as well as ensure successful launch strategies for deals the Sales team closes.
  • Develop and execute overall product assortment strategy to maximize sales and new customer acquisition
  • Optimize the catalog by developing strategies included but not limited to:
  • Pricing
  • Assortment planning
  • Inventory planning
  • Work cross-functionally with Director of Partner Success to establish an annual marketing calendar, with key promotional events that are exclusive to the GovX audience.
  • Partner with Director of Partner Success to develop tactics to acquire new GovX members.
  • Establish strategic pricing strategies for key promotional periods both in terms of implementation and potential impact to the business.
  • Develop new revenue channels and products that allow us to capture marketing budgets, better wholesale pricing and overall increased margin from current vendors.
  • Coordinate with Controllers to optimize processes for Inventory fulfillment and procurement.

No travel is expected for this position.

Work Location
Due to training and team collaboration requirements of this position, the candidate must live and work in San Diego, CA where the GovX corporate headquarters is located. No relocation allowance provided.

Requirements
  • 6+ years\xe2\x80\x99 Merchandising/Buying/Category Management experience.
  • 4+ years\xe2\x80\x99 experience managing and driving a team.

  • Proven ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize based on materiality to drive growth.

Salary Range
$100,000.00 - $120,000.00 annually, with the opportunity for additional variable compensation.
