Job Description


The Director, Business Development - Corporate provides strategic leadership, and recruits, retains and develops a collaborative, proactive team of service-oriented corporate business development professionals primarily supporting the Capital Markets, Mergers and Acquisitions, Finance, Financial Institutions, Restructuring, and other Corporate Advisory practices.

  • Lead and inspire the corporate team, coaching multiple direct reports and their teams and cultivating a culture of excellence, collaboration, and superior client service
  • Prioritize initiatives and manage the corporate business development staff to align with attorney, firm, and practice-specific goals
  • Develop an understanding of the firm\'s corporate practice areas, attorney specialties, clients, and business development needs
  • Collaborate with attorneys and the internal PR team on article placement, speaking opportunities, and webinars
  • Provide direction to the corporate business development staff on the enhancement of various processes/deliverables to improve the quality/competitiveness of the work product, the efficiency of production, and the ability to measure/track results, including with respect to:
- Preparing presentations, proposals, and pitch materials in connection with business development opportunities
- Maintaining deal databases and recording matters for precedent, marketing, and business development purposes
- Preparing deal lists for each supported practice, as well as specific geographical and industry sectors, in connection with various business development opportunities
- Updating print and digital marketing materials to ensure content reflects the substantive strengths, accomplishments, and current activities of the firm and each supported practice group
- Drafting and submitting content for numerous league tables, legal directories, awards, and related industry guides
- Conducting research regarding existing and prospective clients, competitor activity, and market trends and opportunities
- Preparing internal and external deal announcements
  • Collaborate with attorneys on high-level business development/visibility initiatives and manage their efficient implementation with the support of corporate development staff

  • Solid understanding of a professional services firm structure and management from financial, operational, and personal perspectives and a thorough knowledge of how a sophisticated global law firm works
  • Knowledge of, and experience with corporate practice areas and transactional matters (including capital markets, finance, M&A, and restructuring)
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and project management skills
  • Ability to maintain professional composure in high-pressure situations and a fast-paced, multi-authority environment

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work confidently and collaboratively with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Experience with legal-research / legal-news databases and resources
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ensure confidentiality of all the Firm\'s and client\'s documentation and information
  • Five to 10 years of experience in business development and marketing (law firm background preferred)
  • Bachelor\'s degree required, preferably in marketing or finance (JD or other advanced degree a plus)
  • Proven success in recruiting, mentoring, managing, and developing team members, with an ability to inspire and motivate others

  • The expected base salary for this position ranges from $275,000-$325,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained.
