Job Summary:

The Director of Arts Education oversees operation and implementation of programming, curricula, professional development, and budgeting for all Propel Schools Arts Programs, including all Fine Arts, Creative Arts and the Propel Performing Arts Academy (PPAA).

General Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and collaborate with other instructional directors on a regular basis in order to contribute to a holistic approach to Propel\xe2\x80\x99s academic system.
  • Work under the supervision of the Superintendent to manage and lead the development, selection, implementation, evaluation and refinement of Propel\xe2\x80\x99s K-12 academic programming, curricula, and assessment system to accelerate student growth and achievement.
  • Conduct oneself in a straightforward and honest manner, be accountable for actions, maintain confidentiality, and support organizational values.
Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment
  • Clearly define and support a Fully Valued Arts Program by establishing, promoting, and communicating high standards and expectations for all students and staff.
  • Work cooperatively and collectively with teachers, Arts staff, building leadership, and other administrators to ensure that instructional programs and curriculum are developed, refined, and implemented with proper support and resources provided consistently and equitably across the school network.
  • Support the design and implementation of professional development for Fine Arts teachers, Creative Arts Advisors, PPAA teachers and staff, and Teaching Artists to ensure and support high quality, standards based instruction.
  • Work with existing regional Arts partners to provide students with a CreativeArts experience that gives them both breadth and depth of Arts programming through their work with Teaching Artists in Residence.
  • Establish and facilitate meetings of stakeholders, to sustain ongoing connection to latest research, trends, and issues germane to Arts Education at Propel Schools.
Administrative
  • Support Coordinators in the management of CreativeArts staff in contracting, scheduling, training, and supporting Teaching Artists in Residence across the Propel network.
  • Manage budgeting of Fine Arts and CreativeArts for all schools to ensure equity and responsible financial decision making among teachers and Arts staff.
  • Actively engage with local, regional, and national Artists and Arts Organizations, both established and emerging, in an effort to create new partnerships and continually evolve Arts programming.
Qualifications & Skills:

Required:
  • Minimum education required: Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in education or related field or combination of education and experience
  • Minimum years of experience: 5 years teaching and 3 years leadership role(s)
  • Commitment to sustaining and growing high quality programming
  • Ability to plan strategically with clear vision for future development
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to inspire and lead teams effectively
  • Ability to handle diverse responsibilities, highly organized
  • Excellent communication skills, including speaking and writing
  • Commitment to a Culture of Dignity and Social Justice
  • Comfortable using current technology
Preferred:
  • Experience working in diverse, urban schools
  • Active creator, producer and/or consumer of arts and cultural experiences
