EMPLOYER INFORMATION: Clifford Beers is a mental health clinic serving children and families. Our mission is to provide integrated services addressing mental, physical, and social determinants in order to improve health, resiliency and quality of life for children, families and communities. PURPOSE: The Pre-School Program Director is responsible for planning and implementing the parent involvement and parent education component of the early childhood program, as well as implementing child and family services including health nutrition guidance, counseling and special needs. The Pre-School Program Director/Teacher (Pre-school) works in conjunction with the Executive Director and Lead Teacher to assure compliance with the State of Connecticut Department of Health Licensing, NAEYC Accreditation Standards, and the City of New Haven School Readiness guidelines. The major areas of responsibility are to establish positive and productive relationships with families, formulate and implement the annual program goals for continuous improvement, conduct community outreach to increase program visibility, coach and observe the classroom staff to provide daily educational activities, and support program evaluation and accreditation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • To establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment by:
  • Ensuring room design supports the goals of the classroom
  • Ensuring snack program is healthy and nutritious, promoting healthy eating
  • Ensuring the children\xe2\x80\x99s environment is safe and conducive to learning
  • Ensure advancement of children\xe2\x80\x99s physical and intellectual competence and support children\xe2\x80\x99s social and emotional development and provide positive guidance by:
  • Ensuring the teaching staff provide a balance between child-initiated and teacher-initiated activities
  • Ensure physical equipment and materials for indoor and outdoor play promote children\xe2\x80\x99s physical development
  • Ensure an integrated curriculum is provided that meets the needs of all children
  • Ensure planned activities and implementing experiences that promote language and literacy development
  • Increase enrollment
  • Supervise Teachers including classroom observations, evaluations and provide professional development activities
  • Ensure planning and implementation of hands-on activities foster positive self esteem
  • Ensure planning and implementation hands-on activities foster social skills
  • Ensure planning and implementation of culturally diverse experiences
  • Ensure positive guidance techniques for teaching staff
  • Ensure wide variety of creative and expressive activities
  • Ensure communication with children is developmentally appropriate
  • Staff evaluations, classroom observations, review of lesson plans, create professional development goals for program staff, regular meetings with staff, support their understanding of implementation of ELD\xe2\x80\x99S and its connection to curriculum and child assessment.
  • To establish positive and productive relationships with families by:
  • Coordinating annual family surveys, including processing survey results
  • Formulating annual program goals based on family survey results, working with the Executive Director and Lead Teacher, then communicating and sharing information with families and staff
  • Promoting communication with parents through a monthly newsletter
  • Creating and managing family focused activities and events that occur throughout the year
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with families by creating an open dialogue with parents and lead teacher to assess needs and interests
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with other community organizations to maximize community resources for families
  • Ensuring on-going, regular communication with families about: Their child\xe2\x80\x99s progress through parent conferences and daily exchange of information; Curriculum and program goals through meetings, workshops and written materials
  • To ensure a well-run purposeful program responsive to children, families, staff and funding/administrative requirements by:
  • Maintaining and submitting written plans on a weekly basis to both Executive Director and Lead Teacher
  • Ensuring all required reports are accurate and submitted on time
  • Maintain NAEYC accreditation
  • Increase parent engagement
  • Creating a parent handbook, update and communicate with parents through materials to ensure the safety and well-being of the children
  • Providing monthly reports to Lead Teacher and Executive Director
  • Comply with all School Readiness policies and quality components
  • Reviewing budget with Executive Director and Lead Teacher, and assessing program supplies and materials needed
  • To maintain a commitment to professionalism by:
  • Promoting the Farnam Community\xe2\x80\x99s mission, philosophy and educational objectives
  • Supporting Farnam Community\xe2\x80\x99s code of ethical conduct
  • Engaging in on-going staff development to improve personal and professional skills, and ensure program compliance
  • Supporting the professional growth and development of colleagues by sharing materials and information, and providing helpful feedback and encouragement
  • Attend staff meetings, workshops and in-service training provided by agency, licensing, funding and accreditation partners
  • Other duties as assigned
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree required, Master\'s preferred, with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant work, preferably in school or community center setting
  • 2-4 years of experience in an office setting

TRAVEL:
  • This role may require travel throughout the Greater New Haven area each day
