PURPOSE AND SCOPE: Supports FMCNA\'s mission, vision, core values and customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including following all regulatory and division/company policy requirements. Drive the success of the Medical Information & Communication group (MIC) within the RTG Medical Department. Take full responsibility for responding to medical information requests. Provide leadership in researching medical literature and self- dependent development of scientific educational materials for the FMCNA Advanced Renal Education Program\xc2\xae symposia and website. Provide excellence in medical education to ensure optimal use of FMCNA products.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provides strategic leadership of short- and long-term goals through thoughtful techniques in the communication of the company\'s mission and core values as a means to implement positive change and/or create organizational structure within the assigned business unit(s).
  • Leads operational efforts through subordinates to complete the administration of business processes and services to ensure the operations effective achievement of goals within the assigned business unit(s). Oversee the development and strategy, in conjunction with Sr. Director or Medical Information and Director of Medical Communication and Education, of clinical education programs for healthcare providers.
  • Directs and controls the broad activities of the business unit(s) through the interpretation, application and implementation of company-wide policies and processes appropriate to the functional area(s).
  • Ensures that budgets and schedules are within company requirements with significant organizational responsibility for the overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting, expense priority management, and recommendation and implementation changes of current methods.
  • Reviews and complies with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Ensures all employees within the assigned team(s) understand and comply with the Code of Business Conduct and all applicable company policies and procedures, local, state and federal laws and regulations; establishing and maintaining effective internal systems and controls to promote compliance.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and coaching for all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce, partnering with Human Resources on employee matters.
  • Collaborates with employees in the establishment of clear and concise development plans to ensure succession planning and the advancement of future leaders within the organization.
  • Be a technically proficient leader in the specific department and knowledge of industry practice and business principles, within a department or multiple departments.
  • Be a strong tactical decision-maker focusing on tactical execution and handling unforeseen issues.
  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, with significant program or project responsibility generally within the given function.
  • Develops, modifies, and executes company policies that affect immediate operations, with potential company-wide effect.
  • Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
  • Manages the activities and operations of one or more departments, directly impacting the specific functional area.
  • Establishes operations objectives and ensure adherence to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
    • Decisions have an extended impact on work processes and outcomes. Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations and may jeopardize overall business activities.
  • Has the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
  • Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers.
  • Interacts frequently with internal departments and external customers/vendors, particularly in problem resolution.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching and counseling employees, including performance reviews, disciplinary action and terminations. Work with marketing teams to plan and execute disease-state educational pieces related to current product portfolio and pipeline products and pharmaceuticals.
  • Develops and oversees recurring review plan for educational materials
  • Reviews and approves educational materials from MIE and marketing partners
  • Develops and Maintains SOPs for educational materials
  • Assists with various projects as assigned.
  • Assesses new hires during the recruitment process. Directly responsible for the hiring of any direct report employees.
  • Provides leadership and coaching to direct report employees. Partners with HR on employee matters.
  • Works with employees to develop clear and concise development plans to ensure the advancement of future leaders. (succession planning).
  • Maintains highest quality, value and expertise in all aspects of medical education. This includes processes, documentation, and results.
  • Maintains compliance with current medical information best practices regulations and FDA guidance
  • Staffs Medical information booth, as needed, to support unsolicited information requests.
  • Develops and maintains an appropriate level of product and disease state knowledge within the therapeutic areas of FMCNA.
  • Participates as a member of Promotional Meeting Review Committees for scientific, marketing and educational materials
  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:
  • Responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Medical Information Scientists staff

EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor\'s Degree required; Advanced Degree preferred

EXPERIENCE AND REQUIRED SKILLS:
  • 6+ years\' related experience.
  • 3+ years\' experience as a Manager; or 3+ years\' experience in a senior managerial role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing one or more departments.
  • Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
