This critical executive leadership role will represent the Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) team by overseeing a broad scope of responsibilities related to IT communications, IT engineering portfolio management, the VUIT website, and organization change practices. Additionally, this leader will have a strong partnership with Vanderbilt\'s central marketing and communications teams to enable and empower brand standards, technical backend web infrastructure, web governance, and web content management.

As the leader of these teams, this executive will be responsible for ensuring that the organization\'s digital strategy aligns with its overall business objectives and overseeing the implementation of digital initiatives that drive growth and transformation. Additionally, the executive will be responsible for ensuring effective communication, IT project/portfolio management, adoption of services, and change management practices to advance transformative experiences across the University to drive successful project delivery and adoption of new technologies.

The IT Executive Director of Digital Strategy and Transformation is also responsible for driving the transformation of IT services through the use of technology. This executive oversees a team of professionals and is responsible for ensuring that the organization\'s digital initiatives align with its business objectives and drive growth, adoption, and innovation. To be successful in this role, the IT Executive Director of Digital Strategy and Transformation should have strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills, as well as a deep understanding of digital strategy and transformation. They should be able to effectively manage teams and stakeholders, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Key Functions and Expected Performance:

  • Lead the development and implementation of the IT organization\'s digital strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives and industry trends.
  • Driving the transformation of IT digital services through the use of technology, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
  • Developing and managing the IT organization\'s digital roadmap, prioritizing initiatives based on business impact and feasibility.
  • Collaborating with other departments and stakeholders to identify and address digital-related issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Ensuring that the IT organization\'s digital initiatives are secure and compliant with industry standards and regulations.
  • Managing the IT digital team, providing guidance, mentorship, and support to team members.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with vendors and other external partners to meet the organization\'s digital needs.
  • Directly managing IT communication efforts.
  • Oversee and lead the IT engineering portfolio teams, where technology projects and portfolios will help drive transformation work.
  • Formulate and execute organizational change practices for VUIT.
  • Assess current adoption of IT services and in partnership with the CIO, create new adoption strategies for improved digital services.
  • Focus on creating a positive team environment where the VUIT guiding principles are embodied by all team members and encouraged in daily work activities for all staff.
  • Strong commitment to professionalism in daily interactions
  • Keeping up to date with the latest digital trends and technologies and making recommendations for their implementation where appropriate.
  • Communicating the organization\'s digital vision and strategy to internal and external stakeholders, including executive leadership, employees, customers, and partners.
Supervisory Relationships:

This position does have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Chief Information Officer.

Education and Certifications:
  • Bachelor\'s degree necessary
  • Master\'s degree in business administration, Computer Science, or a related field preferred
  • Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) and/or portfolio management (e.g., PfMP) preferred
Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated leadership experience leading web/dev teams, enterprise web strategies, IT support teams, and portfolio oversight necessary
  • Minimum of 7 years of leadership experience in any capacity, with at least 3 years in higher education IT leadership necessary
  • Strong understanding of IT engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices necessary
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills necessary
  • Experience managing large, complex IT teams with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities is necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute digital strategies and roadmaps aligned with business objectives necessary
  • Strong financial acumen and experience managing budgets and financial forecasts necessary
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with changing priorities and requirements necessary
  • Knowledge of project and portfolio management tools and software preferred
  • Experience in Agile and DevOps methodologies preferred
  • Experience in IT infrastructure and cloud engineering methodologies preferred
