Occupational Summary:
This position is designed for a tech-savvy professional, with experience in social media, public relations, and promotional events. It will collaborate with the University Relations team members to help create, distribute and engage the community in impactful storytelling. This position also works together with teammates to develop strategies, plans or tactics based on insights gathered from interactions with community members. In addition, this position monitors and reports on engagement of digital content, organizes, and participates in events to build community and boost brand awareness.


The Digital Community Specialist reports to the Director of University Relations and works closely with the Digital Content Specialist and collaborates with members of the Newman University Institutional Advancement department (including video communication specialist, web technology specialist, senior graphic designer, and alumni relations director).

Position is full time (40hrs) and works 12 months per year. Paid time off and benefits starting after first 30 days. Approximately 20 days off with pay for observed holidays/breaks with an additional 2 weeks of vacation time accrued per year. Tuition waiver for employee, spouse and eligible dependents after one year of employment.

Work Performed:
  • Collaborate with the Director of University Relations to develop and implement successful, purpose driven community strategies
  • Collaborate with the Director of University Relations and Digital Content Specialist to set and implement social media and communication campaigns to align with marketing strategies
  • Provide engaging text, image, and video content for social media accounts
  • Engage with, respond to, and gather insights from community members
  • Monitor and report on feedback and online reviews
  • Organize and participate in events to build community and boost brand awareness
  • Coordinate with the University Relations team to ensure brand consistency
  • Build relationships with community members, potential community members, industry professionals and journalists
  • Stay current with digital technology trends
  • Other duties as assigned



Required Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills Training
:
  • BS degree in Marketing or relevant field
  • Must be collaborative
  • Proven work experience as a community specialist or coordinator
  • Experience launching community initiatives (e.g., building an online forum, launching an ambassador program, creating an event series and writing an email newsletter)
  • Ability to identify and track relevant community metrics (e.g. repeat attendance at events)
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and writing skills
  • Direct experience with social media management for brands
  • Ability to interpret website traffic and online customer engagement metrics
  • Knowledge of online marketing and marketing channels
  • Must be self-starter, detail oriented and have an ability to multitask
  • Ability to perform basic photography, video, and graphic design
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
