Position Information

Plans, coordinates, supervises and directs the activities of a large branch with responsibility for a variety of complex engineering or architectural programs or projects carried out through several subordinate professional supervisors; and performs other duties as required.

There are three current vacancies with the Department of Design and Construction, two in the Facilities Division and one in the Civil Division.

Engineer Salary: $8,258 to $10,289 per month (SR-29), includes shortage differential.

Architect Salary: $7,226 to $8,455 per month (SR-29)

Minimum Qualification Requirements

At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor\'s degree in an engineering or architecture specialty.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Four years of registered professional engineering or architectural experience, including or supplemented by two years of related supervisory experience.

Such experience must have demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of supervision and administration; engineering principles, practices, concepts, theories, and precedents; laws, ordinances, rules, regulations, codes, policies, procedures and concepts applicable to the assigned area of responsibility; the different engineering specialties as they affect and relate to the functional area of responsibility; the latest technological advances in the functional area; methods, techniques, and practices used in procurement including the preparation of plans, specifications, estimates, contracts, and reports; methods, techniques, and practices of contract management; sources of engineering information; and principles and practices of program and project funding; and the ability to plan, assign, evaluate, supervise and manage a major branch/program and its activities through subordinate supervisors; provide expert technical information and advice in the functional area; organize, execute, and coordinate assignments which are typically unique, complex and/or controversial; represent the organization and participate in high-level conferences and meetings; serve as a technical expert and resource in the functional area; prepare and justify budget requests; prepare administrative and technical reports and correspondence clearly and concisely; establish and maintain effective relationships with subordinates, superiors, and representatives of community groups, other government agencies and industry and the general public; effectively address public meetings and groups.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
1. Current State of Hawaii registration as a professional engineer or an architect.

2. Applicants with a current out-of-state license in an Engineering Specialty or Architecture must obtain their Hawaii license prior to appointment.
