Job Description


Supervises and directs the activities of a major project management section with responsibility for a variety of complex engineering projects or programs; and performs other duties as required.

Current vacancies:

  • One vacancy with the Department of Facility Maintenance, Chief Engineer\'s Office. Under the supervision of the Director and Chief Engineer and the Deputy Director of the Department of Facility Maintenance (DFM), this position manages/supervises the Program & Project Management Operations (PPMO) Section and its multiple projects for the DFM Master Plan, DFM\'s Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and major operational maintenance programs, and those for other major department programs.
  • One vacancy with the Department of Design and Construction, Facilities Division. Under the general supervision of the Branch Chief, this position administers, directs, and coordinates the activities of the Section for the Capital Improvement program (CIP) or Operating Budget projects involving the planning and design of public structures and buildings, park and recreational facilities, the renovation, restoration, and redesign of all City-related grounds, and space management planning of City-related facilities.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
DDC vacancy: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor\'s degree in architecture or an engineering specialty.

DFM vacancy: Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with a bachelor\'s degree in an engineering specialty.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
DDC vacancy: Three (3) years of registered professional engineering or architectural experience, including or supplemented by one year in supervising or being responsible for an engineering or architectural operation or function.

DFM vacancy: Three (3) years of registered professional engineering experience, including or supplemented by one (1) year in supervising or being responsible for an engineering operation or function.
  • The three years of registered professional engineering experience must have involved the development of engineering plans, managing multiple projects within timelines and applicable rules, regulations and codes, and/or managing consultant/contractor contracts within an established budget.
  • The supervisory experience must have involved assigning, monitoring and evaluating engineer subordinates.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
DDC vacancy: Possession of a valid license as a professional architect, engineer, or landscape architect in the State of Hawaii, at the time of application. Applicants with an out-of-state professional engineer, architect, or landscape architect license must obtain the Hawaii license prior to appointment.

DFM vacancy: Possession of the following: * A valid license as a professional engineer in the State of Hawaii, at the time of application. Applicants with an out-of-state professional engineer license must obtain the Hawaii license prior to appointment.
  • A valid driver\'s license (type 3/automobile), prior to appointment.
