POSITION SUMMARY: The Deputy Political Director will be responsible for managing and representing the Detroit Action political and policy programs at the local, state and federal levels. The Deputy Director will be expected to do a wide variety of membership engagement activities including one on ones, hosting and staffing on-going membership meetings, supporting the creation of a civic engagement committee, as well as planning leadership development and other tactics geared towards building a thriving base of Detroit Action member-leaders who can be volunteer activists or member-leaders for the organization. This position will also be responsible for the supervision and training of 1-3 campaign organizers or other staff members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Implement yearly political strategy by working with membership, organizers and senior leadership team in the planning and evaluation of voter registration, civic engagement, issue campaigns and other programs; Execute member engagement and organizing programs to hold elected officials and corporate actors accountable with measurable impact on policy and narrative Manage Detroit Action \xe2\x80\x9cPolitical Action Committee\xe2\x80\x9d, made up of key organizational member-leaders, who can own candidate endorsements, and strategy on voting right and corporate campaigns; Coordinate with other departments within the organization to ensure that the political program aligns with DA broader strategy, particularly close coordination with Organizing, Field and Digital teams; With Training coordinator, institute Detroit Action\xe2\x80\x99s political training programs such as \xe2\x80\x9cPower In The Precinct\xe2\x80\x9d, \xe2\x80\x9cMovement School: Detroit\xe2\x80\x9d, \xe2\x80\x9cDetroit Campaign School\xe2\x80\x9d and \xe2\x80\x9cBlack Womxn Win\xe2\x80\x9d to recruit and develop members to run for office and work on campaigns; OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Work in close partnership with officers and senior staff to develop innovative, impactful and strategic campaigns that will drive future membership growth and be adaptable to future trends; Work with senior staff to identify, define, and track priority metrics; Collaborate with Organizing team using data in innovative ways to engage people; Support analyzing policy issues that could impact Black and Brown Detroiters EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 5 years of experience in community, electoral or labor organizing methods; Strong understanding and experience with key electoral tools and technologies, including voter lists and data management; Previous experience managing VAN and voter file data for large-scale civic engagement programs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Commitment to social and racial justice Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to organize complex ideas for others to understand Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, and other database software. Strong understanding of legal parameters for electoral organizing in both 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4) and PAC contexts. Ability to quickly learn new skills and tools Strong knowledge of and experience with national, state and local organizational players engaged in electoral strategies and programs. Experience in managing staff and developing the skills and leadership of staff. Knowledge of analytics tools for conducting strategic analysis of large amounts of data Ability to handle multiple sensitive assignments in a timely manner. Ability to react quickly to the fast-paced news cycle Be able to think creatively and outside the box ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Deputy Political Director reports to the Politics Director and works collaboratively with staff, contractors, vendors and other partners on a weekly basis to maintain program efficiency. Detroit Action, Michigan Action and Detroit Action Education Fund,are projects of Tides Advocacy and Tides Center. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must be able to lift boxes of training materials. Able to attend conferences throughout the United States. Must be able to travel domestically on an airplane 4-8 times a year. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is a full-time, exempt position. This position is hybrid and based in an office building in Detroit, MI - The position will be required to work some weekends (Saturday and Sunday). The position may require national travel. The assigned workspace is a cubicle in an open and shared work area with a moderate level of noise and interruptions. About the Organization: Detroit Action, the Detroit Action Education Fund and its sister organization, Michigan Action, are hosted projects of Tides Advocacy and Tides Center. We are affiliate partners of the Center for Popular Democracy (CPD) and the Alliance for Youth Action. The successful candidate will receive generous benefits as provided by Tides. The salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years\xe2\x80\x99 experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $75,000-$90,000.
